The current rules governing junk mail, unwanted telephone calls and other forms of unsolicited communication are not strong enough.

Why not allow people to display a brief notice, backed up by law, consisting of a standard form of words that expresses the occupant's desire not to receive unaddressed mail and/or cold calls? This works in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Also regarding unwanted telephone calls, it should not be necessary to have to pay BT an additional monthly fee to block silent calls or calls where the originating number has been supressed by the sender.

If people want to make informed choices about products, the internet provides a vast amount of resources.

Why is this idea important?

Firstly, to protect peoples' right to privacy.

Secondly, to protect the vulnerable from unscrupulous sellers.

Thirdly, to stop wasting trees and bandwidth.
