Shops should be given freedom to choose whether they wish to open on a Sunday, and not restricted in this decision by the Sunday Trading Act (1994) which only permits large stores to do so (for a certain time period).

The only justification I can see for not permitting Sunday trade is on religious grounds (i.e with Sunday being the Sabbath) so please bring up some more reasons in your comments if there are others

Why is this idea important?

Sunday trading restrictions are discriminatory to people who do not share the same views on the Sabbath as others may do.

It is unfair on some businesses that would profit from having an extra days trade.

It would create a significant number of jobs to help put a dent in our rising unemployment levels
