The Rational Triumvirate! Regulate – Educate – Revenue Generate (Legalise Cannabis/NHS Heroin/Decriminalised Possession of All Drugs)

The pursuit of liberty, deficit reduction and a safer society along the way…

Cannabis represents a massive commercial opportunity that up to now has only been available to organised crime. The jobs and tax revenues that would stem from a cafe culture would be a welcome addition to the legal economy, and by definition would be taking money and jobs from the criminal underworld.

Heroin is the most damaging of the illegal drugs. Registering addicts and giving them free heroin in clinics along with clean needles, safe doses and therapy, offers the best value for all of society. A vast amount of the theft and burglary in this country is due to acquisitive crime to fund a heroin addiction. This would virtually disappear with NHS heroin clinics.

We are currently in control (a bit) of the largest heroin producing nation in the world. Perhaps us purchasing the good from the farmers rather than the war lords might go some way to creating some jobs and stability in Afghanistan. There is also a global shortage of medical morphine which would represent a decent export for the country.

Decriminalising possession for personal use of all illegal drugs is simply an attempt to reduce our prison population and free the police from the burden of dealing with such a prevalent, yet victimless crime. It is a liberal and realistic approach to a problem that is not going to go away.

Do NOT decriminalize cannabis…

…LEGALIZE it.

It is important people undrestund the difference between legalizing and decriminalizing.

Legalization is the process of removing a legal prohibition against something which is currently not legal.

Legalization is a process often applied to what are regarded, by those working towards legalization, as victimless crimes, of which one example is the consumption of illegal drugs .

Legalization should be contrasted with decriminalization, which removes criminal charges from an action, but leaves intact associated laws and regulations.

Raise taxes to fight wars or don’t fight them

If a government decides to war, and that war comes to a vote in Parliament, that vote would have to include a measure to increase taxes to fund the war. Perhaps add a penny to the basic rate of income tax if they wanted war.

Bring the troops home from Afghanistan

We're told that we are under threat from terrorism which means our lads and lasses have to risk their lives fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan.

I think if we are in so much danger then the troops would be better off deployed here protecting the British public on British streets.

Lets deal with home-grown terrorism first and foremost. That's the real concern for many.

Focus on the Hadiths 2

At present both the government and the media struggle with the portrayal of muslims since we are fighting muslims in a muslim country yet at the same time we are trying to help muslims get their country back and we have muslim citizens. Instead of portraying muslims as radical muslims or liberal muslims or making up words like islamists, refer to them by a different word entirely that does not involve any form of the word islam or muslim. The key distinguishing feature that separates normal muslims from those that turn violent over a picture of their prophet is that the violent ones believe in what are called hadiths (the sayings of the prophet). These are basically rumours that are declared to be of equal value to what is in the Qur'an because they are claimed to be said by Mohammed.

The key thing about the hadiths is that they are completely made up and most muslims do not believe in them. For example, many drawings and portraits were painted and made by genuine muslims without any danger at all a few centuries ago, yet now the 'islamists' cannot allow it to happen. And many muslim countries have music to this day, but to the hadithans music is nearly all banned. Same with comedy, there are muslim comedians yet hadithans are not allowed it. Therefore I think that it would help a great deal with interfaith relations if these strange believers in hadiths were referred to as hadithans so that muslims recognise that they would effectively be leaving islam if they joined this sect and so that muslims can be seen once again as normal people by the majority of this country.

Ban Depleted Uranium weapons

The Chernobyl disaster released 9.6 tons of uranium into the environment and is often seen as the worst radiological diaster in history.

Britain and the US have used 5000 tons of uranium munitions in Iraq and Afghanistan and this is causing huge numbers of cancers (a tenfold increase) and bizarre birth defects (up by six times the normal number).

The decay products of depleted uranium are actually more radioactive than the DU itself and this elevation in cancer and birth defects will last until all that uranium is taken out of the environment and safely stored away from the human population, the time taken for it become safe naturally can be measured in many billions of years.

The British military should not be using DU weaponry, the armour piercing advantage compared to the modern tungsten rounds is questionable at best and the cost in the lives of civilians and children is unacceptable.

Repeal Drugs Prohibition

The UK has long participated in the "Global War On Drugs". In spite of this, all research and anecdotal evidence suggests that the use of currently illegal drugs is increasing.

Arguements are made pertaining to the health and societal aspects of drug use being detrimental to the country. This is almost always overstated and often detracts from rational discussion on the subject.

What is proposed?

  • The prohibition of all drugs currently illegal to posses or use should end.
  • Those who wish to purchase previously illegal drugs should be able to obtain them from licenced and reputable vendors such as chemists.
  • Registration could be implemented in order to allow analysis of purchasing patterns to identify those who are potentially at risk from any proven health concerns.
  • VAT to be applied to these sales earning the government much needed revenue.
  • Quality control to be ensured by those licenced to manufacture and supply.
