capital punishment

reinstate the death penalty for murder and sexual crimes that involve extreme violence.

Forensic techniques. DNA. finger printing. CCTV evidence. All these methods of detection and verification have been evolved to such a degree that they  are conclusive. The unsupported word of any person is no longer a factor that can bring about a conviction even for relatively minor offences.

The past system of "sufficient" wieght of evidence would not be an acceptable criteria. Absolute proof would be the requirement for a case to be refered to a second court to decide if the person convicted even had to face a final hearing to decide the setence.

Repeal the act that banned the death penalty; this is NOT the introduction of a NEW law.

Violent crime infringes my civil liberties; the freedom to walk the streets safely, live without locked doors night and day, allow children to play freely, not forced to attend schools secured against paedophiles This applies to all of us and regaining our freedom is a War, which Must be won. As with any war, there will casualties; judges, and juries, are not infallible. I am prepared to accept that, even if the wrongly convicted person is myself, in order to see our country free of murderers, sex offenders, drug dealers, drunk drivers, arsonists and all those who kill or otherwise destroy lives. If it takes leaving the EU to do it then good. Many of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers gave their lives for our freedom, which we cowards allow politicans to give away, while we pay for those who choose to give up their right to life to live in luxury.

Do NOT bring back capital punishment and here’s why…

Horrific crimes often generate a knee jerk reaction resulting in a call for the resurrection of capital punishment in the United Kingdom. This is not the answer to crime in Britain and here is why.

1. The death penalty is often cited as being  a deterrent to crime. This is debatable but there is no conclusive evidence for this. The Southern United States has the highest execution rate in the country and also the highest murder rate. Chicken or egg? It hardly matters.

Some research suggests that far from deterring murders, capital punishment has a brutalising effect upon society and can actually increase the number of murders per year.

2. Why should people be kept in jail for the rest of their lives at the expense of the taxpayer? Believe it or not it's actually often more expensive to execute someone than to keep them in prison for the rest of their life. It cost the state of Florida $3 million to execute serial killer Ted Bundy, it would have cost $1.5 million to keep him in prison until he was 80.

This is due to the lengthy appeals process that MUST be undertaken in order to ensure that an innocent person is not put to death. Most defendants cannot afford the team of lawyers that are required for a capital case, so these must be provided by the state. This is very costly and can go on for years, sometimes decades while the appeals play out.

It is also more expensive to keep someone on death row than in the normal prison population. Condemned prisoners must be kept under almost 24 hour guard in solitary confinement. This is also far more expensive than life in prison.

3. No justice system is faultless. It's bad enough that people have spent years in prison before being found innocent on appeal. Executing someone is final and cannot be reversed. DNA evidence is not a magic bullet and was never intended to be. It merely provides a chronological narrative of movements. For more information on this search for 'the CSI effect'.

4. Having the death penalty for a crime where the victim does not die, such as paedophilia,is counter-productive. If the penalty is the same as if they victim dies, the perpetrator has no reason not to kill the victim to escape identification.

5. Either human life is sacred or it isn't. You can't have it both ways. Once exceptions are made to human rights, it's a slippery slope.

6. Executing a murderer does not bring the victim back. Many victim's families in the United States have campaigned to save the life of their relative's killer, over their opposition to the death penalty.

Restore the Death Penalty for peadophiles and all murder’s

I believe that we have a fundamental problem with our society and the way that it is run. The government tells us that we live in a democracy. If then we are a democratic nation, give us the right to vote on the subject of the Death Penalty, let us the people decide.

We have a hug problem with over crowding in prisons and it is costing the state millions each year to keep people jailed who have committed heinous and terrible crimes against humanity. If a dog bites a child it is put to death, so too should any person who sexually abuses, harms or murders a child be put to death.

The Death Penalty needs to be restored as justice must be seen to be done. I demand that this government give the people of this country a referendum and let us once and for all decide whether or not to restore the Death Penalty of leave it abolished as it is.

Inability to Deport Foreign Criminals and Terrorist Operatives

The British government is prevented at present by a host of statutes, precedents and European court rulings from deporting foreign nationals and immigrants who are convicted of serious crimes or found to be members of proscribed, often terrorist organisations back to their countries of origin where those countries are thought not to place the same emphasis on so-called "human rights" as we do. We need not necessarily be talking about North Korea; quite often these "unsafe" nations are members of the Commonwealth, and objections can even be raised when deporting someone to the United States on grounds that the Americans retain the death sentence.

The state's first duty being to protect the law-abiding in general and its own citizens in particular, these impediments to the deportation of foreign criminals and terrorist operatives should all be swept away and the individuals concerned compelled to lie in the beds they have made for themselves.  I thought we weren't supposed to pass judgements on the cultures of others anymore, anyway?

Repeal the Murder (Abolition of the Death Penalty) Act 1965

To repeal the 1965 Act removing the right of the courts to impose the death sentence on what were previously termed capital murderers – capital murder being murder committed in the course of or furtherance of theft; murder by shooting or explosion; murder while resisting arrest or during an escape; murder of a police or prison officer or persons assisting them; or two or more murders committed on different occasions.  Aspects of EU law preventing member states from restoring or introducing capital punishment would of course also need to be addressed.

Hard Labour for criminals

Dangerous and recidivist criminals should be hanged. Those that are left should be sent to work camps. A simple ration of water and stale breads (yesterdays from bakers) to all. Slighlty better food to thos ewho work. No TV, no ping pong, just a bible at night. Longer sentences, reducable only to those who work very hard over a period.

Clearing derelict land, brownfield sites, clearing litter, and labour job from dawn ot dusk, then the cell.

It is crazy that we feed and give heating and tv etc etc to scum who attack or rob us.  The answer is very simple. Work them till they drop.

In the USA they have quyite an industry going with prison wokrers. We should be making a profit out of prisons not a loss.

Lets have a referendum on the Death Penalty.

I understand that this subject invokes a great deal of emotion in people, and that most of us will have particularly strong views either way. That said, I have always believed that a referendum has been consistently blocked by the Government because the outcome will be a resounding, "Yes, bring it back!!" A public debate on this issue followed by a referendum is really the only way that this matter can be resolved.

I have never understood why we allow certain criminals to live. The lockerbie bomber for example. He killed  243 passengers and 16 crew members. Allowing individuals like this to live is a national disgrace nevermind letting him go!). When we have cases of parents allowing their children to starve to death only to receive a 7 year sentence then something needs to be done. What kind of country have we become? There is little point in going through every reason as to why we should bring it back, that's the whole point of a public debate followed by a referendum.

Corporal punishment

I have seen britain turn in to a violent society in recent years and there is no punishment out there to stop it, no matter how hard to try to educate people it will maybe solve a very small % of violent offenders.

The prison system it very soft, i know people who commit crimes just to get in to prison as it is now a better option that working for a living.

It's time to actually get tough and mean it. I would suggest murderer's, rapist's & child sex offenders (peadophile's) should face a death sentence if found guilty of the offence.

This would save the tax payer hundred's of thousands of pounds as we would not be funding there 'good treatment' whilst in prison and also provide further space in prison for those who commit robbery & burglary. Then the courts can imposed tough sentencing on those pieces of scum.

I would expect there would be opposition from human rights group, but they need to get of their high horse and understand this is a 'REAL' problem which affects everyone.

People are not scared of our criminal justice system as it is too way, very pink and fluffy because of human rights etc.

I'm not the only one who has this opinion, many other people do. I think as a government you should put this to the people to vote rather than make the decisions yourself and you will get an idea of how strongly people feel about this idea.

. We need to get away from the treaty's we have signed and make Britain a strong country who will not be soft on those who willing commit crime

Reinstate the death penalty for treason

While it is highly commendable that we focus on the rights of a citizen whether inside or outside parliament. There is a need to highlight we have responsibilities as good citizens. The reinstatement of the death penalty for treason would provide sanction against excess perpetrated against the citizens of this country

Bring Back Capital Punishment

I think that we should bring back Capital Punishment as we spend too much money on murderers, rapists and other criminals who have commited serious crimes. These criminals will cost the taxpayer millions, but instead you could just sort out the serious criminals once and for all and stop the taxpayer paying for these waste of spaces. I thought under the Labour government that criminals were treated better than normal people who pay their taxes.

Bring back the Death penalty

I believe that the death penaty should be applied in a limited number of circumstances. These are the murder of a member of the armed forces,  the muredr of a member of the emergency services. and the sexual murder of a child.

We should also follow some of the ideas of the american system, whereby the guilty parties have enough time to appeal,i.e. the introduction of new evedence to support their innocent ect, so that the most severe of sentances can be  seen to have been carried out in a timely but just fashion.

bring back the death penalty

Apart from saving money housing/educating/feeding/rehabilitating etc these criminals it will bring closure to those who have lost loved ones.

The death penalty should apply to those who cause the death of another by violence whether it be premeditated or caused by drugs/on behalf of a third party or sexual (rape).

Our society has given a free ticket to all those who have no regard for our historical values of fairness and freedom so why should we protect and pamper them when they seek to destroy our society by their actions.

Death Penalty for serious sex offenders / child murderers

There is no place for people like this in this world and yet they are kept in prison with all the mod cons and some are let out to re-offend.

They even get 'rights'.  Disgusting.
