Remove DEFRA travel route restrictions for pet dogs and cats with correct veterinary treatments

Remove DEFRA's entirely pointless restrictions on travel methods and points of entry when traveling with a EU-microchipped and correctly vaccinated/worm treated pet dog or cat into the UK. If the animal is 'safe' to enter on some official DEFRA-approved route, then there is no possible reason why it should become 'unsafe' if the same animal from the same foreign country with the same vacccinations and treatments appears at the same port of entry but on a non-DEFRA-approved flight number, or at any other port of entry by any travel method.

At present, accounding to the DEFRA website, 'Dogs, cats and ferrets entering the UK under PETS may only do so on certain sea, air and rail routes', an apparently arbitrary list of selected commercial flight numbers, a few ferry routes and several executive jet companies and Eurotunnel, and specifically 'You may not bring a pet into the UK from a private boat or plane'.

These travel-method restrictions are unique to UK – other Euopean countries, who are no doubt just as concerned about the possible import of rabies and other unpleasant microbes and parasites, do not have travel-route restrictions. Even, for example, Sweden, which similar to UK has extra veterinary  import requirements (e.g. de-worming) above the EU standard, allows you to import your dog or cat by any method into any port of entry.

Ear tagging and tracing sheep

Abolish all legislation concerned with monitoring the location of sheep. Tracing sheep is pointless, unnecessary, unachievable, time wasting, expensive and harmful to the ears of the animals. It is legislation designed by bureaucrats for bureaucrats. These bureaucrats are parasites in our society.

There is no justification for this insane legislation. It is stated to be essential ‘in the event of a disease outbreak’ but it will do nothing to prevent disease or to control disease.

Farmers are now required to record the movement, not just of batches of sheep, but of individual sheep. Sheep are obliged to have a tag in each ear, inscribed with a unique number which must be entered onto a licence whenever the animal is moved. Many farmers have several thousand sheep.

FSA Guidelines

Mu Idea: Make FSA (Food Standards Agency) Guidlines Simple & Binding.

When the EU issues legislation, the FSA issues Guidelines. These guidlines have 2 major flaws.

1.) They are not a legal document, they refer you back to the EU legislation for clarifications

2.) They are not industry specific.

Humane slaughter of farm animals

Allow others to offer practical help in the slaughter of farm animals for private consumption. This should particularly apply to isolated rural areas without local abatoirs.

Restore equal rights for rural residents

Repeal the statutes which fail to safeguard rural areas from those who treat planning regulations, and existing residents, with complete contempt.

Retrospective planning permission should be abolished. Unlawful settlement on land, which has no sanitory or other essential services, should be a criminal offence.

Killing a pheasant by car on road

If someone driving accidently kills a pheasant on the road, I understand that the person behind in the following car can claim it but not the driver who killed it.  If this is so, then this is nonsense.

Avoid bovine Tb spread

Badgers don't go to market. They catch Tb from cattle which are carted around the country to agricultural 'shows'. All movement of livestock to shows should be banned. Farmers wishing to buy livestock should visit the farm offering them for sale to check the quality of the animals and the care provided by the farmer. The auction at the 'show' will be in the absence of the cattle which will be saved the transport round the country and the pollution from cattle trucks. Bovine Tb will soon be eliminated.

repeal of the Agricultural Act 1986(and amendments)

This act allows tennants to stay in the farms forever and pass on to other members of the family.

They are often small uneconomical farms where retired farms reside and possibly have done since the war.  This act cost the landowner money to actually keep the tennant.  It means they have an asset that is a liability.  Rent can only be raised on 25 March with 2 years notice (in truth that means nearly every 3 years and  not that if they appeal and win).  The maintenance, insurances, etc are all paid by the landlord.  When the farmer retires it is still not possible to get a new tennant in to actually "farm" the land.  What often happen is the retired farmer lives in the farm at exceeding low rents and can pass ths "asset" on to other family members.  Even council owned small holdings have a clause where the tennant has to vacate the property when they retire.

There are several samll farms in this trap where they are owned and rented out in this manner and the land is not being used to its full potential and it does not encourage the landowner to make any improvements as in this cas it would be just throowing more money after bad.

Young farmers or would be farmers are desperate to rent starter farms like this as many cannot afford to buy and they are prevented by this act that keeps the farms in the hands of the retired until they die and the land is underused.

To do away with unnecessary and restrictive planning and conservation regulations that stop people doings things such as erecting a shed in a rural area or taking down an old delapidated building that has no archetectural or cultural merit. Scrap The Foods Standards Agency

People are fed up with being told what to eat all the time. We are adults, we can choose for ourselves, not have some 'do gooder' dictating to the food industry and the public at large of  what should be eating all the time.

The other problem is that government guidence keeps changing, and it is becoming a minefield to know exactly what is safe to eat and what isn't  that makes the whole thing totally confusing.

We already know what we are suppose to eat, however with food prices keep going up. The real real fresh healthy food seems to being priced out the reach for low income families, and it is a bit hyprocritical to then start nagging that we are not eating healthy, when we sometimes just need to get what we can to survive.

The Environmental and Trading Standards Service is a good enough service to make sure that our food is safe for consumption.

A repeal of the hunting Act

The hunting Act should be repeled as it has proved to be unworkable, illiberel and a waste of Police time. It has given animal rights activists credence with the police as they aasume the position of monitors thinking that they are an extension of the Law, when they have publicly ststed that if tghere is a repeal they will revert to "sabbing" full time.

Let us hope that if and when the time comes for repeal, that this Government will not waste the hours on it that the former administration did and also take heed of the reports submitted on hunting especially that of Lord Burns.

Tree Preservation Order

Under the Tree Preservation Order system, private landlowners are unable to lop or remove trees without permission of their local council.

Where such trees are causing damage to a building and the council refuse you have to lodge an appeal. This is costly and often includes submission of tree surgeon and surveyor opinions.

The grounds and scope under which the appeals are granted are very narrow and if your appeal is not granted the only remedy is to appleal to the High Court or to seek injunctive relief. This is unaffordable for most people.

The result is that the Council maintain a lot of power, the system is skewed in their favour. The system needs to be drastically remedied to bring about a fairer more equitable system.

Make Council Expectations and Re-cycling schemes simpler and better

Currently local councils seem to have different regulations concerning their recycling schemes and some do not make reasonable allowance in their systms for missorted items. Mine (rochford) seems to prefer  writing slightly different guidance notes, and sending letters to the small percentage of people who have missorted an item.

People coming to stay, holidaymakers from different boroughs and children mean that sorting will never  be 100%.

One set of recyciling regulations across the UK rather than one for each borough.

Fund the maintenance of graveyards

It may come as a surprise but graveyards and cemeteries are not maintained unless they are full. (At least in Doncaster I am not 100% sure about the rest of the UK) This means that relatives can sometimes be unable to get to graves to visit their deceased family.

This led to the unfortunate situation two years ago when, due to the surprisingly fast growth of some tall grass, the graveyard next to my house became totally inaccessible to visitors several of whom were angry and upset.

Please fund the maintenance of graves or encourage voluntary groups to do it.

Get rid of Waste Transfer Notices

As an owner of a small business with multiple sites I spend several days each year filling in Waste Transfer notices for councils to let them know that I won't put anything but standard rubbish in my bins. This is an utter waste of both their time and my time – were waste can be hazardous then fair enough, but for the bulk of UK retail business it is just unnecessary paperwork.

Only those business with hazardous waste whould be required to complete paperwork,

Flexible footpaths across cropped land

Public footpaths directly across fields during a cropping periods or use by livestock are an unnecessary burden on farming and horticultural community.

The safety of the general public is put at risk from livestock and crop protection chemistry. Further pets "on" footpaths present and unnecessary biological hazard to food production in these areas. It should be permisiable to temporarily move any footpaths to field margins during the period of cropping or occupation by livestock. Appropriate signage might be the responsibility of the land owner / tenant.

As current farming pracise ensures suitable boundaries there is no aditional cost to land owners.

The current practise puts an unnecessary financial and practical burden on land owners at very busy times of the calander. A more flexible approach is in line with what was "The countryside code".

Further a consideration to the vast inhibitory nature of regulation for the perminant re-routing of footpaths  should be given.

S.O.S STOP Fluoridation!!!

Research and studies have shown that Fluoridation is TOXIC, causes bones to crumble over time, can cause autoimmune disorders, and is absorbed by the skin when bathing or showering.  It conflicts with many of the  NHS National Service Frameworks ;one of which is preventing fractures and falls in the elderly, as it will cause many people in the population to have brittle bones(even at a young age!!!)Eventually the population drinking and washing in it will suffer inequalities in their health and their mental health.  Who can i sue when i develop Alhzeimers, Diabetese, Heart disease, cancer, brittle bones and brown flecks on my teeth due to the fluoride poisoning?? Will it be the Southampton Local Health Authority?  Why is the populations health being experimented with??

DO NOT REPEAL THE HUNTING BAN

MR CLEGG;when the hunting ban was brought in by the previous government, it was with the support of the parliamentary and public majority. this long-overdue piece of legislation was overwhelmingly supported by all concerned animal welfare organisations who submitted compelling and irrefutable research that the practice of hunting with hounds is, undeniably, cruel in the extreme. what, pray tell, mr clegg(doing dodgy dave's dirty work), has changed in the intervening years?has new research emerged to show that foxes enjoy the,"thrill of the chase"? or maybe a new breed of masochistic fox has evolved that relishes the prospect of being ripped limb from limb? somehow, i doubt it; more likely is that you,(Mr Clegg), have sacrificed the principles of the party for whom(you claim), to have stood, for a little bit of power, in order to satisfy the bloodlust of dodgy dave's mates. how very sad that those who lead our country, are shallower than a puddle in the street. i fear that the die is already cast and this ridiculous website is no more than smoke and mirrors but, if you retain a shred of decency, principle and a sense of what is morally and ethically right, then please, grow some male genitalia and use any influence you may have to do the right thing.

Swimming in natural inland waters

People should have the right to swim in inland natural waters such as rivers and lakes. As they do in Scotland. Local councils should not be allowed to create and enforce swimming bans except in situations where there is a pressing need to do so.

Particularly in lakes and rivers on public land, people should be allowed to make their own decisions as to whether they wish to swim in them, at their own risk.

Abolish or strictly limit ‘use by’ dates on commodities

Allow people and businesses to use their senses including common sense to decide whether food items are fit for consumption.  'Use by' dates on such as honey, found palatable after 5000 years in a Pharoah's tomb and bottled water advertised as 'filtered through rocks for a thousand years' are just ludicrous.  Or at the very least limit the rigidity of 'use by' dates to items where unfitness for comsumption can be truly dangerous to health and/or can be concealed by the unscrupulous.  For example allow retailers deeply to discount or give away fresh food that is past its best but perefectly palatable.
