The Midlothian Question

Repeal of the 1707 Treaty of Union

There is no need for the Treaty of Union, signed in 1707 against the wishes of the Scottish people.  Scotland can do better on its own as recent reports have indicated.  For the last four years Scotland’s economy has been in surplus – with more taxes raised than spent in Scotland.  In effect Scotland is subsidising the failing UK economy

Parliamentary Reform & Devolution

Within the devloved administration areas, instead of electing separate MPs and local Assembly Members, have one set of elected representatives able to serve in both capacities.  Allow them to participate in Westminster business only on subjects where the relevant devolved assembly has no lawmaking powers.

Each kingdom to be treated fairly

Wales should be given the same amount of powers that scotland get. The Welsh Assembly should be treat as a equal to the other assemblys in Britain. Also England should be given a assembly and all four of the kingdoms assemblys should be given the same powers, and Westminster should only represent all of the kingdoms in issues like military, nucleur weapons, fuel, imports, exsports, immigration etc, walst the assemblys deal with issues effecting that kingdom, this will make england equal to the other kingdoms rather than england being superior to the other kingdoms.

English Votes for English Laws

Finally doing something about the West Lothian Question, where a Scottish MP is allowed to vote on matters that only affect England but the same Scottish MP is not allowed to vote on matter concerning his own consituency e.g a Member of Parliament for West Lothian being able to vote on matters affecting the English town of Blackburn, Lancashire but not Blackburn, West Lothian in his own constituency.

Another example being English students are required to pay top-up tuition fees, while Scottish students are not. The legislation imposing top-up fees on English students passed by a small majority of 316 to 311. At the time opposition education secretary Tim Yeo argued that this low majority indicated that the passing of the law had hinged on Scottish MPs voting to introduce tuition fees that the Scottish students would not have to pay.

Review the Barnett Formula

The Barnett Formula is the formula used to calculate the amount of United Kingdom public expenditure to be allocated to Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The Barnett Formula has come under increasing scrutiny since its introduction in the 1970's. There is widespread doubt about the suitability of the Barnett Formula to the contemporary English tax payer.  The government should conduct a review.

Empower the regions of the UK by devolving tax raising powers

To counter the fact that the wealth of the UK is largely centered on London & the southeast create assembalies in the regions of the UK and give them tax raising powers so they can compete for wealth with each other

Allow England to vote on Scottish Devolution.

It not only many Scots that want to see Scotland go it alone as a fully independent state, a large number of us English are fed up of subsidising Scotland. The fact of the matter is Scotland (per head) takes far more out of the UK than it puts in yet there is constant bleating about its north sea oil and been ruled by westminster.

So lets have a referendum on both sides of the border as to whether the Scots want to be independent and if the English want rid of them.

Acts of Union

The annexation of Wales by the English crown, first of all by the Statute of Rhuddlan at the end of the 13th Century and later on by the Acts of Union in the 16th Century (Laws in Wales Acts 1536–1543) would be illegal under international law if it happened today.  I suggest therefore, in the interest of civil liberties, that these oppressive laws be completely expunged from the statute books.  The existence of these unwanted and unjust laws has severely impinged upon the civil liberties of Welsh people for centuries.  The fact that the government has not produced a Welsh language version of this website further underlines this fact.

Return to the people of Wales their nationhood and country

In 1535 & 1542 acts were passed in an English parliament, with no welsh representation

1. annexed Wales into England (now known as England & Wales)

2. Criminalised the welsh language (amended by the Welsh Language Act 1993)

3. Did away with it's legal system

English Parliament

There is a Welsh Assembly, and Scottish and Irish Parliaments where decisions are made for the perceived good of their respective nations. Within these official establishments items relating to their nations are voting on by their nationals. No English person can vote on Scottish matters nor can a Scot vote on a Welsh matter. England and the English have no such establishment.

Repeal All the Acts of Union

The various Acts of Union are discriminatory under British and European Law. They either  do not include Wales at all or treat Wales as a province or part of England. Wales as an entity is older than England and its native language (Cymraeg) is the oldest extant language in Europe. Wales is to have a referendum on further devolution of power next year but it remains excluded from the Union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. A new Act of Union which includes Wales needs to be drawn up and a new Union flag devised which contains some symbokl of Wales, the present one excluides all symbols of Wales asuc as St David's Cross, The Red Dragon or the Royal Arms of the House of Gwynedd (Owain Glyndwr's Flag). The citizens of Wales should be asked if they want to be a part of the Union and iof they say yes, steps must be taken to rectify this hundre3ds of years old wrong.

Remove Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland from elections

Scotland, Wales and NI have their own elections and parliament, so let them have their own government and elections and let them get on with it. Time for Westminster to be Englands own parliament and only the people of England vote towards it.

Double representation of regions in government equals costly discrimination against England

Redressing the civil liberties of people living in England in line with the regions by removing double representation in Westminster.

MPs elected to Westminster for the Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland interfere with the civil liberties of people living in England as these MPs are currently involved in policy-making decisions which affect England, but not their own region.
