Dignity and supporting independence for disabled people who need welfare support

Disabled benefits should encourage independence and maintain dignity at all times.

The government should enter into a individually tailored contract between the disabled person and the state with asserts rights and responsibilites

The contract would give the disabled person the right of privacy and freedom from fear of having benefits summarily stopped if rules re infringed.

The contract should also require and incentivise paid or unpaid work  or learning

The outcome would be more independent and productive disabled people who may return to the labour market and give them greater security, self respect and pride in their engagement with the welfare state.

Scrap Independent Driving Section of Driving Test

As of 4th October 2010 every novice driver taking their practical driving test will be required to undertake a 10 minute independent drive which will involve the examiner asking the pupil to follow signs to a known destination; or follow a string of 3 or 4 verbal instructions; or follow 3 or 4  direction changes from a diagram, or a combination of all of them.

This introduction should be scrapped forthwith…

stop paying the foreign company ATOS to do disabilty benefit medicals

right now if a person becomes disabled or falls into poor health and needs to claim health or disability related benefits their need for these benefits is decided by a medical done by a the foreign IT company ATOS.  these medicals are paid for out of public funds.  there is strong evidence that these medicals are highly inaccurate and it appears the company is trying to prevent people getting the benefits they need and are entitled to by erronously finding them to be fitter and less ill than they actually are.  medical records from claiments own GPs, consultants, and other members of the care and medical teams are ignore.  this results in huge costs as people are forced to appeal to law to get the benefit they are entitlled to.

it is my suggestion that the government immediately end their contract with ATOS.  i further suggest that future medicals are done by local GPs from a different practice than the claiments own.  this means the medicals are done by a fair unbiased person who will have access to the patients full history whilst not having person experience of the person which should result in fair more accurate assessments  and save money via reduced need for appeals

Disabled People Receive too Many Benefits!

To counter the rise of ever increasing cost of meeting disabled peoples needs a care benefit should be introduced for those supporting disabled people.

This care benefit will give the carer the exact amount of money needed to pay for the essentials which the disabled person needs such as food. housing & mobility costs.

There will be a option for private companies to also accept this benefit if they can provide a suitable service to look after the disabled. This will create a new opportunties within the private sector and create more competitive care at the same time which is good for customers.

The money will come from the existing budget for disabled people by removing incapacity benefit & disability living allowance entirely.

This will also put off claimants who are not genuine so fourth eradicating benefit theives.

This will allow the government to distribute more money to other vunerable groups like pensioners who have worked their whole lifes while also saving money for the deficit at the same time.

Empowering disabled people to have their own parking space outside their own home

Create personal disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders outside their own homes.

This priviledge should only be offered to those persons on higher rate mobilty rate DLA

At present such spaces are routinely refused by most councils on grounds of high cost due to red tape that has to be followed to create them. Disabled parking bays make a huge difference to a persons quality of life, disability equality and civil rights.

Spaces should be able to be created cheaply and simply through special dispensation from the Department for Transport to create enforceable disabled parking bays without the need for expensive and lengthy Traffic Regulation Orders. This would require the same arrangements in place currently to create a bus stop with no stopping "cage".

BENEFIT SYSTEM

HI

I am a social worker by profession. Here what i see at work is people are dependant on the government to survive. Some of the professionals are not interested to get disabled people to work as that involves a bit of more work. They just ask people to fill forms and get all the benefits. the term is called "MAXIMISING THE BENEFITS". THIS NEED TO STOP. Out of 100 disable people who get various benefits 60% could actually work. but the law does not allow them to work more than three hours a week as they would lose the benefits. what a rediculous situation.

There has to be a cap of maximum amount a persoan can claim on benefits. some single person i have seen claim around £250 on benefits when govt provie them accomodation. An working person who works 40 hours fail to reach this mark. a single person who is on benefit does not need £250 to live. they could work and earn

Emancipating People to Have A Say In Society

The 'Law'  that needs to be discarded is the one that ensures that ' you'  will continue to have jaundiced views on the social and moral rectitude of disabled claimants who cannot work. Our sole means of subsistence is via the grudging state benefits – one half of minimum subsistence at best! – which are under threat on your pretext of  'economising'.

I refer to the Law that stipulates that no sitting MP shall have or have had direct experience of mental ill-health.  The ring of fear of disclosure – Stigma – that this creates, ensures that everyone with back-ground experience as to where people with mental health needs are coming from with our disabilities – anyone 'grounded' in our issues, is Banished from the forums of Parliament and gagged from putting the light of their experiences to good effect to inform the decisions which deeply affect our section of society, taken by you, but apt to be mis-construed by you because your decisions are taken oblivious of the nature of our experiences and perspectives!

In case you do not quite see the drift of this,  the implementation of the Employment Support Allowance, which discards recognition of incapacity and any duty to meet commitments to the continuing care needs of incurably ill people – uninformed by our perspectives as claimants, goes nowhere near meeting the needs of disabled people from any perspective and is not fit for purpose.  It is not Of the people or By the people or For the people.  It is in our Faces as Anti-democratic as well as Anti-disability.  It is directed At us and is loaded with compulsions that most disabled people regard as harassment, since we have no hope of measuring up to the mis-construed expectations placed upon us.  I am prompted to respond:  NO COMPULSION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!

Unsurprisingly, I among many do not take kindly to the course being set for us – that of Whipping Boy and Scape-goat for a society malaise of needing a victim to heap blame and execration upon.  Furthermore, I believe it is incumbent upon MPs to set their own Houses in order, because this is the source of the mis-directed, ill-advised compulsions being levelled at disabled people in general and the mentally ill in particular.  It is also the source of perpetuating stigmatising attitudes and discriminatory measures levelled against some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

End humiliating medical tests for genuinely disabled.

Those on HR DLA shouldn't have to be subjected to a battery of further medical tests as part of the current welfare reform proposals.. These people have usually been subject to many tests over the years. Why should 1 doctor's opinion be trusted more than another anyway?
Too often we're bombarded with negative 'scrounger' type stereotypical imagery which has contributed to a recent surge in disabled hate crime.  What you don't get to hear about are the people with very real & disabling conditions (with a poor enough quality of life anyway) subjected to Dr's asking them to urinate in front of them & other such grossly humiliating 'tests'& questions. Enough is enough!
