End presecution of lap dancing clubs

At the moment there seems to be a concerted effort by certain lobby groups and government legislation to reduce or eliminate lap dancing clubs on moral grounds. Arguement range from accusations of increased crime to prostitution to drugs involvement, yet many of these areguements turn out to be completely false.

An example was that one of the anti-lap dancing lobby groups suggested that lap dancing clubs experience a high crime rate, yet crime statistics show that lap dancing clubs experience far fewer disturbances than normal night clubs.

I also dispute that lap dancing is exploitation of women because it is 100% consentual and the girls make a very good living. In addition, on the moral arguement, who has the right to impose their morals on other people?

Now, based on these kinds of warped argeuments, the previous government passed legislation that makes it easier for local authorities to close Lapdancing clubs. and I believe that this law is highy undemocratic and oppressive and should be repealed.

Ban local councils right to snoop

Local Councils should be banned from snooping, it waste's precious time and resource all of which the tax-payer has to foot the bill, without even going into the civil liberties issues. Local councils are there to administer and manage local services only not intrude on people's lives

Restore the freedom to protest in Parliment Square

The news this morning of the eviction of protestors from Parliment Square goes against the Right Honorable Gentelman's idea of restoring civil libities and the purpose of this site.

The Rational Triumvirate! Regulate – Educate – Revenue Generate (Legalise Cannabis/NHS Heroin/Decriminalised Possession of All Drugs)

The pursuit of liberty, deficit reduction and a safer society along the way…

Cannabis represents a massive commercial opportunity that up to now has only been available to organised crime. The jobs and tax revenues that would stem from a cafe culture would be a welcome addition to the legal economy, and by definition would be taking money and jobs from the criminal underworld.

Heroin is the most damaging of the illegal drugs. Registering addicts and giving them free heroin in clinics along with clean needles, safe doses and therapy, offers the best value for all of society. A vast amount of the theft and burglary in this country is due to acquisitive crime to fund a heroin addiction. This would virtually disappear with NHS heroin clinics.

We are currently in control (a bit) of the largest heroin producing nation in the world. Perhaps us purchasing the good from the farmers rather than the war lords might go some way to creating some jobs and stability in Afghanistan. There is also a global shortage of medical morphine which would represent a decent export for the country.

Decriminalising possession for personal use of all illegal drugs is simply an attempt to reduce our prison population and free the police from the burden of dealing with such a prevalent, yet victimless crime. It is a liberal and realistic approach to a problem that is not going to go away.

Front line Troops should be over 21

I should like to see all front line troops at least 22 or over as there are far to many youngsters coming home in boxes. This must be very distressing for their mothers and the rest of the family. I have a son of 21 and it would devastate me to loose him.

Stop public security announcements

At most railway stations, even tiny ones, we are constantly bombarded with loud and pedantic  'customer information' announcements telling us not to leave items unattended, and similar announcements are made in trains. I don't know whether or not these announcements are required by government regulation or advice, but their tone and frequency is intimidating as well as distracting, and the message I receive is not that I should be alert to threats but that I am living in a country which is contemptuous, distrustful and abusive of its citizens. I know of now other country where obsessiveness is as institutionalised as it is in the UK. In the USA, for example, they just have posters with the pithy message 'If you see something say something'. This immediately appeals to both my intelligence and my public spirit, whereas the mechanical ranting of Big Brother in the UK has the opposite effect.

Repeal Sections 132-138 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005

This submission argues for the repeal of undoubtedly one of the, if not the, most illiberal and repressive laws of the many passed by the last Labour Government. Sections 132-138 entirely prohibited protesting within a kilometre of Parliament Square, the very heart of British democracy, without giving a week's notice and many specific details to the authorities.

Let Owners Build Big Houses On Own Land – With Garages

If you own a piece of land you are not allowed to build a comfortable house to your own design. Government rules effectively forbid you from making the rooms large enough to be comfortable. You probably cannot build just one house either because Minimum Density Regulations mean the land only gets planning consent if it is split into two or more. And no way will you be allowed as much parking as you want. Two adults and two teens who will soon be working 20 miles away – no the PolitiKal Kommisars in most areas order a maximum of 1 parking space per household (often less, 0.8 for flats) in order to force people onto public transport. Which is fine except late at night, early in the morning, on Bank Holidays, if providing any kind of emergency response, or simply if one has back pain and cannot use badly driven busses.

Do not impose maximum standards on property owners that they cannot exceed.

Hate crime ..add disability

Presently if its deemed a crime was committed against someone mainly because of their race or sexuality the sentence can be more severe than if the crime was committed on other grounds . Disability tho isnt included on this list even tho attacks on disabled people because of their impairments arent infrequent.

The case of the mother who killed herself and her disabled child because of constant harassment by locals  was one which shocked and horrified many yet if those people are caught they can only be charged with public order offences not hate crimes.

Had this been a racially based or homophobic couple based harrassment they could have been charged with hate crime and been given a heavier penalty.

MP’s should have to do the same as the rest of us

Reading through some idas on this site I've found two areas where MP's are treated differently to the rest of us.

1.  MP's don't have to have CRB checks even if their work brings them in contact with children.

2. MP's can choose to smoke inside Westminster licensed bars because of its 'palace' designation.

Are there any more examples of the civil liberties of MP's being more respected than the civil liberties of the rest of the population and where they are deemed above the law.

I think if we have to do it MP's have to do it too.

Abolish current Human Rights laws/treaties and replace

My suggestion is to withdraw unilaterally from all existing "human rights" treaties and rescind existing laws and put real effort into replacing them with something more coherent.

I would also suggest that rights of individuals change depending upon circumstances as a "citizen" may fit into various categories.

I hope it will be constructive if you consider what should be the rights of:

Armed forces when at war
Armed forces when at peace
Militia

Freedom fighters
Terrorists

Emergency service personel
Civilians in wartime
Civilians when at peace
The accused
The convicted
The victim
Parents
Children

Citizens of other countries

We should create something that suits, and protects the citizens of, the country that we live in.

I am not pretending it would be easy but the current laws need to be binned and replaced with something that is not readily held up to ridicule.

2012 Olympic Laws

Don't let the International Olympic Committee's pressure to create laws that outlaw the community in East London from benefitting financially from the Olympic Games. We saw at the recent World Cup that local people were not allowed to use any word in their marketing that associated their product with the tournament. This was grossly unfair and it would be a great shame if London followed suit during the Olympics. There are already reports surfacing that suggest that laws will be brought in to stop so called ambush marketing. We must make sure that these laws do not penalise local business around the Olympic park or across London.

Raising the State Pension Age

People are now having to work longer and cannot claim state pension until they are much older, but employers are usually looking for younger, fresher employees. Hardly anyone will want to employ a sixty year old, which is a shame. Older people have more maturity and experience.

Eliminate limits on Sunday trading hours

As a capitalist country there should not be limits on retail trading hours, trading hours should be governed by demand not government!  Restricting retail hours on Sundays is against capitalism.  As Christians we complain how other governments have laws based on their religious beliefs when it comes to business yet we do the same.

Repeal of “hate crime” legislation

I would like to see the Government repeal recent legislation which has established the idea of a hate crime.  As long as they do not specifically incite violence, people should be free to voice an opinion, however strong, about religion, sexuality etc.  and should be able ot do so with the full protection of the law.

The idea that a policemen can arrest a person, and that person be charged and convicted becasue they called another peorsn a "coconut", which happened recently, has no place in British society.

We should be allowed to say what we please, when we please, to whomsoever we please.

De-criminalize the carrying of ALL knives whose purpose is peaceful

People carrying everyday knives — yes, even big ones — should not be seen as criminals.

You might have just bought a set of foot-long kitchen knives to carry home. Or you might have been invited to a Christmas party and are taking good quality one to lend to the host because the ones he owns are dysfunctional.

Yes, I know there is a clause allowing people to carry such knives provided they have "good reason".

But this exactly where it breaks down. The boundaries are vague and open to abuse by police bent on harrassing members of the public.

And there is scant evidence that this law actually reduces knife crime.

If there really are politicians who respect liberty and are not afraid of the tabloids they will begin by abolishing this law.

Scrap ATOS Origin/ATOS healthcare medical assessment quango

This quango earns £80 million plus a year from the DWP to assess claimants for benefits medically. Many claimants are very disabled, have had months of treatment and surgery and are still under the care of NHS surgeons and GPs yet the DWP in their wisdom still ask for ATOS assessments.

The assesments are made by so called professionals who have been on a three day training course. Some are doctors, some are nurses aome are simply clerks. I know of numerous cases where the assessment has been so innaccurate and incorrect that appeals have been made.

Many of the appeals have been upheld but no one fines or deducts money from Atos and claimants are not given an explanation from the DWP, only from Atos. The DWP simply send out forms and start the whole ridiculous process all over again.

END RESTRICTIONS ON SUNDAY TRADING

Allow all retailers to open their premises on all Sundays without restriction. Whether or not to open on Sundays and for how long should be a business decision made in consultation with and preferably by agreement with the staff concerned. Existing protections in employment law for staff who wish to observe Sunday as a holy day should be retained.

Reduce Detention of Suspect Days

Currently a person can be taken into a police-cell, prison or detention centre before trial or sentencing, this is unlawful and should either be scrapped completely or drastically reduce the max period of 28 days (we have the highest out of any country). We should reduce it to a maximum of a week or less.

Can we get a definitive comment on the issue of cannabis legalisation from Mr. Clegg?

Seeing as the subject of cannabis law reform is possibly the most repeated single idea on this site, shouldn't it be an appropriate subject for Mr. Clegg to comment on next time he releases a new Home Page video response?

I would like to know whether there is any point in my continuing to champion the cause of freedom and liberty without prejudice for all, especially in the realm of cannabis use. If the hundreds of similar posts on this site have been noticed (and lets face it, it would be impossible not to notice them) then please indicate the governments position on this obviously highly regarded issue.

Childrens human rights.

Children are treated as chattels and are not consulted on their wishes and proper assessmebts are not carried out for court tug of love cases, they can be snatched from their home in one country and taken to another without adequate preparation, or proper social assessments, without being consulted on their wishes if a court makes a decision. What about the childs human rights, an intelligent five year old knows their own mind, yet they are deemed not old enough to make a decision. At whar age are we deemed to deserve our human rights, 18 ? Time the childs wishes were considered paramount and at the very least these cases should be considered more sensitively, the child should be prepared, consulted and social assesments carried out and their human rights should be given consideration.
