Modified ‘Loud’ Car exhusts

I believe there should be more restrictions and laws governing the use of modified car exhausts. We have many, many, laws governing noise nuisance by neighbour’s… sterio’s etc but we are now bombarded by loud car exhausts. They are attracting more and more attention now and the police are picking up on it too now. I believe the decibel rating is 82db but I don’t know if that is idling or running. The police are now stopping and checking the decibel rating and I would like this rolled out on a country wide scale.

I cannot understand the ethos behind these exhausts other than to attract attention to the driver of these vehicles. But those of us whom do enjoy our cars and our sleep of a night are annoyed by these ‘boy-racers’ whom create this anti-social noise. No one has come up with a suitable explanation as to why have them in the first place?? On a race track it’s fine but not on public roads. There should be legislation and a ban on them.

Abolish Sunday Noise Pollution

To allow every human being the right to some peace and quiet for one day in thier working or non working lives. Having worked a very long week and looking forward to the weekend, Saturday is taken up with shopping trips, house and garden chores, but sunday used to be and should still be a Rest Day. A day out of time to reflect on our family to bond and to remember our purpose in life. A day to give thanks for what we have and for what the earth has given us. Now i'm not a religious man, but I do still have some respect and dignity for my family, my friends and my niegbours. However I just wish my niegbours would see my point of view on this, especially when they start up thier petrol lawn mowers and strimmers, and not to mention the military air craft screaming over head polluting my air space. Have we all gone completely mad, no wonder the earth is hitting back at us with her elements, lets give back a small part of what we take out of her, and take time to reflect on our real purpose in life, remember that we create our own reality in life, need I say more.

Noisy Neighbours

I would like to see responsibility for dealing with noisy neighbours be transferred from the local authority to the police as the current arrangements are inadequate.

Some people are very noisy just because they are thoughtless or self absorbed but in some case it amounts to harassment and anti social behaviour.

What happens in my past experience is that a local authority may employ one or two noise officers for the entire borough. They do not work on bank holidays (when people have noisy parties). If you ring the council at say 2am because you cannot get to sleep, a message taker takes your details. Sometimes an council officer will only come out if other people have also complained. If and when an officer becomes free (which may not the case) they ring you and ask if the noise is still going on. This may be about 5am when the noise has stopped and you have finally got off to sleep. If there is still noise they then you wait while they travel to your home and come inside with noise measurement instruments. If the noise reaches a certain level of decibels the officer visit’s the noise maker’s address and asks the perpetrators to be more considerate. If they continue to be noisy on that or on other occasions, there is the threat that their equipment can be confiscated. Either way you miss a night’s sleep!

Other, civil aspects of noise, such as from building, road works and businesses could still be dealt with by the council.

Amendment to the noise pollution laws. – pre-existing noise

When dealing with noise complaints, No abatements orders should be issued if it can be proved that the noise in question was already present and ongoing for more than two  years before the complainant moved into their property, or if the complainant could have easily known or found out about the noise in advance of the purchase.

This will stop the vastly unfair situation of someone having to stop an activity, business or hobby they may have been doing for years just because someone new moves in next door and dislikes what the existing neighbours are doing.

Noise at Work (Music teaching)

Get rid of the HSE regulations regarding noise at work applying to music teaching in schools and other environments. It is ludicrous to apply regulations clearly designed to apply to heavy industry to the teaching of something that is intrinsically bound up with the sound. A music teacher accepts that they will be 'exposed' to noise and will take responsibility themselves for keeping it to 'safe' levels. Putting this responsibility onto the employer is classic nanny-stateism. Noone that I know in the music education sector wants these regs. So let's abollish them

Remove reversing alarms from vehicles

The current requirement to have all vehicles larger than a car sound a shrill alarm when reversing is unnecessary.

It is the driver's responsibility to make sure it is safe to proceed at all times. The current status quo shifts this and is used to intimidate visually impaired and other people out of the driver's way. If the driver cannot see it is clear he or she should enlist the help of a colleague and/or use side mirrors and proceed with more caution.

If nothing else at least the volume could be reduced. If a vehicle is in danger of hitting someone, they must be reasonably close. It cannot be necessary to have the alarms heard 500m away. And a person who is severely visually and hearing impaired will be in danger from traffic no matter what excessive noise is made.

Stop NIMBYism harming motorsport and the motorsport industry

Residents that have moved into an area where a motorsport circuit, venue or facility was already established should not be able to lodge complaints against the circuit or organiser in terms of sound or traffic.

Proper research and effective reports by estate agents and solicitors should have highlighted the existence of the site in the locality at time of purchase, and if they didn't, the fault therefore lies with the house purchaser and their agents, not the owners of the pre-existing venue.

Therefore, restrictions should not be placed on motorsport activities where new local residents lodge NIMBYistic complaints against the event or venue.

Stop noise pollution from Fridge wagons

Fridge wagons, whilst needed to move food around country can be a nuisance if parked near housing, this needs to be stopped. Especially development within 2 miles of housing if fridge wagons will be going to and from the development

Example supermarket distribution centre.

My proposal is to fine wagons £2000 for parking within audible range of housing, a fine of £2000 if complaints are made about wagons visiting a business and the noise is audible within your garden or house, a fine of £100,000 for distribution centres or commercial centres causing a noise nuisance, if the noise can be heard in your garden or house.

Stop the loud backing up beeping on utility vehicles

Backing up beeping devices fitted on lorried, and vans are a major source of noise pollution in urban areas. Some of them are even talking (very loud), with the noise traveling hundreds of yards. I presume there must be a law or regulation forcing their installation. This must be stopped.

Ban loud anti-social music in residential areas between 20:00 – 08:00

Loud music that is produced physically, electronically or mechanically should be banned between the hours of 20:00pm and 08:00am in residential areas if not from a licensed premises.
