Scrap the Qualities & Outcomes Framework in General Practice

The Qualities and outcomes framework in generla practice is a bean counting exercise that bears no relation to good clinical care. GP surgeries simply tick boxes to gain points. Scrap the system and allow the money to be used as the Doctors see fit so they can concentrate on clinical care for thier patients not chasing money.

Abolish the requirement for Babies to have full Passports

10 years ago a parent could write the names and dates of birth of their dependants on their passport. Now airlines require a full passport for children and even newborn babies. The photo regulations specify that babies must be upright, not crying , eyes open, against a white background, their arms and hands not in shot, no dummies or toys in shot, if an adult needs to support the baby then the adults arms must not be in shot. Anyone that has ever tried this will know it is ridiculous. What use is the photo anyway when babies change so much. This is also a big expense and a lot of admin for a new parent.

Reduce the time bad information is kept on your Credit File

I think that the time that information relating to debt which is recorded on your credit file should be deleted after 3 years and not 6 years, which is the present situation.

This would mean that information such as defaults, CCJ's, Insolvency, missed payments etc would drop of your credit file after 3 years.

Repeal the 2003 Sexual Offenses Act on keeping brothels

The 2003 Sexual Offenses Act makes it  "an offence for a person to keep, or to manage, or act or assist in the management of, a brothel to which people resort for practices involving prostitution "

This part of the act should be repealed and replaced with new laws regulating the operation of brothels.

rules preventing DIY in your own home

Repeal the recent law that makes it illegal to do minor electrical works like adding a socket or light in your own home.

Under this law, you have to get a qualified electrician to carry out even trivial tasks.  The electrician must then check over all the wiring in your whole house (not just the bit that's been altered) and give you a certificate of safety. This whole-home test is required after every little job!

As a result a small electrical DIY task most homeowners could easily and safely do themselves for a few pounds now costs many hundreds of pounds, most of which is the cost of irrelevant testing of wiring that has not been touched.  This is absolutely unnecessary: when the law was passed in the last parliament (it was a private member's bill), the MP introducing it admitted there was no evidence that any lives would be saved.

Repeal the Regulation that Ofsted supervises childminding.

Go back to the previous situation where the county council social services carried out an annual check or inspection of childminders. This worked very well all the time it was in operation.

Scrap or limit maternity/paternity pay and leave for small businesses and public sector

Getting pregnant is a choice

Why should taxpayers (for public sector) or emplyers be forced to pay you for making that choice?

I would like to employ some people for my fledgling business, but frankly I can't run the risk of employing someone under 40 because of the increasing chance that after six months, they or tehir partner will get pregnant, and demand six months pay from me for no work

I can't afford it

OPTING OUT OF THE NHS MEDICAL RECORDS DATABASE

The way the current system works, everybody is automatically opted in the medical record database system. My idea is to  make it neccessary for you the patient to opt into the system rather than opt out. The database managers should have to sell their idea to the patients, so that the patients can make an informed decision on this matter rather than automatically being added to this centralised database system.

NERC legislation

Section 67 of the Natural Environment & Rural Communities Act 2006 should be repealed on the grounds that it is a clumsy statute that has caused very unfair and unreasonable impacts to a significant part of the community, often creating absurd situations, rather than solving problems.  There has to be a better and fairer way of addressing the recording and sustainable use of our ancient highways.

Remove the ban on liquids over 100ml in hand luggage

A ban on liquids over 100ml in hand luggage was implemented as an anti-terror measure in 2006. Technology now exists which is able to scan liquids to determine their contents, this technology is effective and is only being delayed by EU bureaucracy which is holding up the final tests. Given that this is the case the ban should no longer be necessary.

Spouse Citizenship

Remove the regulation where a non-EU spouse of a British Citizen, who can proove that they have been legally married for over 5 years AND can prove that they have been living together in Britain for over 5 years; still has to take a British Citizen test (that most British would fail) in order to receive UK Permanent Residency or British Citizenship.

Scrap Information Commissioner’s Office and Data Protection Registration

I run a small business and because I maintain customer records on a computer ( what business doesn't these days) I am forced to register for data protection with the Information Commissioners Office. Every year they charge my company £35 by direct debit and send me a letter confirming that I am registered for another 12 months.

This is a complete nonsense.

The Data Commissioners Offixce do not monitor my performance; they have no idea if i am complying with the regulations and their only purpose, as admitted to me by one of their staff, is to issue certificates and collect annual fees.

The whole department is probably costing £millions to run every year and adds no value. It should be closed, saving businesses time and money which could be invested in other things.

I also understand that Clubs , Societies and Associations also get caught up under this legislation and are forced to pay an annual fee.

By all means retain the Data Protection Act 1998 as it protects individuals having their personal details distributed to unscrupulous third parties, but scrap the need to register.

Prostitution

The current law which allows prostitutes to sell sex but not to work in brothels is postiviely dangerous and forces women onto the streets.  The buying and selling of sex should be completely legal and there should be liscences brothels set up with Health checks for sex workers. There should be increased stringency against sex worker trafficking and forced sex work.

I think it is time to abolish the TV licence. People should be allowed to choose what they wish to subscribe to & pay for ie Sky TV.

We should be allowed to choose if we want the BBC,not have it forced on us.

End IR35 immediately

IR35 was introduced to stop tax evasion and raise £300 million.  It did neither and just made it much more difficult for small business owners.  Many independent contractors have been caught up in expensive measures to demonstrate that they are not nor have any intention to be employees of the companies to whom they supply services.  They do not receive any of the benefits of being employees (holidays, sickness, benefits, pensions, training, expenses, etc,).

In addition, many badly worded confusing, often contradictory and regularly changed "questions" were put into PAYE and personal tax returns.

Simply repeal IR35 and all references to service companies.  By all means make sure everyone pays the correct amount of tax, but  end this failed law.

Reducing the burdens on businesses

The Government is committed to ending the culture of ‘tick-box’ regulation, and instead target inspections on high-risk organisations.

Which inspections are the most burdensome for your business – including the preparation time you feel you need for these, or when complying with regulations?
