Repeal the Digital Economy Act

This legislation was rushed through in a period when public interest was focused on other issues. Allowing nothing more than an IP address as evidence of copyright infringement is ridiculous. More ridiculous still is a recent decision by a Judge in Germany – using similar legislation – that criminalised a man whose only crime was to fail to correctly secure his wireless internet (thus, a stranger drove past, logged onto the net, and committed copyright infringement).

The coalition government wants to portray itself as having its head screwed on straight: in other words, to provide rational, reasoned legislation which works, and achieving this by listening to experts and doing research properly. As it stands the Digital Economy Act is ridiculously unwieldy. There must be a better, more elegant and more effective solution to the copyright infringement problem.

It ought to be repealed, and the government undergo a proper investigation into what would work as replacement legislation.

Remove disabilites suffered by Roman Catholics and Jews

Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829 and the Jews Relief Act 1858 make it an offence for Roman Catholics and Jews to advise Her Majesty on matters to do with ecclesiastical offices which is a disability not suffered by all other non Anglican religions.  We should either remove the disabilities or rewrite them in a way that includes all non-Anglicans.

Repeal the Hunting Ban Law

This Law was the largest single waste of Parlimentaary time of the last Government. It criminalised Law abiding people to satisfy the Class Discriminating people who consider anyone on horseback to be Toffs. It had nothing to do with animal suffering that has been proved to not be caused or increased by Hunting.

Repeal The Inquiries Act 2005

This Act applies to judicial inquiries such as the Saville inquiry into Bloody Sunday.

It allows ministers to ban publication of evidence and restrict media attendance at an inquiry (to save money. If all else fails, the minister may bring the inquiry to a premature end.

Government can require sections from the report of findings of an inquiry being removed or redrafted or to be altered, if the government believe that it is necessary and expedient to do so under under the wide discretionary powers under section 25 of the Act.

Under this law, independent judicial inquires no longer exist in UK.

Repeal of the 1997 Firearms Act

The above legislation did nothing to increase public safety and served only to deprive law abiding citizens of a much-loved sporting activity. It did nothing to stop criminals obtaining and using pistols and was enacted merely to show that the government of the day were "doing something" as a result of the terrible Dunblane tragedy. We now have the ludicrous situation where persons wishing to compete in international competitions have to train abroad. Unless they live in the Isle of Man, of course. Please scrap this ineffective piece of legislation and give back to us law abiding citizens the right to participate in pistol shooting as a sporting activity.

Education Maintenance Allowance

How is it fair that EMA is given to people just because they attend college or sixth form? I know people who are currently at my sixth form who turn up just because of EMA. It is said that EMA is used for study reasons. A number of people I know use it for other purposes, NOT study reasons. I think this is unfair for people who cannot claim this just because their parents earn over a certain amount a year. Our parents are the ones that are paying these people in tax so I think it should be abolished all together or everybody should have the right to claim it. You can claim up to 30 pound a week…I mean I have a part time job and I can't even earn that on a saturday! There is this stereotypical way of thinking that parents who earn over a certain amount a year give the equivalent amount of money to their children…This is wrong. Do something about this.

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

Why pay children to stay on at school – their parents are already getting child benefit and the vast majority are receiving Working Families tax credits – it is one way of ensuring that a child thinks its okay to start of on a life of thinking thta's it ok to sit back and wait for Government handouts rather than getting of their backsides and getting a job like we used to have to do not so many years ago.

Repeal 1997 Protection from Harassment Act

The 1997 Protection from Harassment Act was originally brought in to protect people from stalkers. Since it was created the act has been twisted so much that even writing two letters to your MP with a six month period constitutes harassment if your MP decides to complain.  Fair complaint about your treatment by a hospital or a school – then their easy remedy is a complaint.

Police chasing statistics know that a conviction under the Act is easy.  Don't take my word but have a look at a site operated by a barrister on the same dodgy law which has no comparable anywhere in the world.  The dirty man of Europe has become the dirty man of the world.   http://www.harassment-law.co.uk/

Consider this independent barristers point of view "Where harassment does occur it is often difficult for the victim to prove because there may be little physical evidence of what has happened. For the same reason however it is often difficult for persons to defend themselves against false or malicious accusations of harassment behaviour."

It is bad law.

Repeal Section 63 of the CJIA 2008 (“extreme porn”)

To repeal the possession of "extreme pornography" section (63) of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008. This makes it illegal to possess staged or faked images if they're judged to be pornographic. This means people have to guess whether a clip on their phone or computer, for instance, is extreme and whether it is pornographic. The law says that possession of some erotic clips taken from BBFC certified films can be illegal, because they're out of context.

This law is unessessary – we already have laws to prevent people committing acts of sexual violence towards others.  This law prevents people making or viewing a record of acts which occur between consenting adults.
