Secular Republic

Replace the monarch with an elected figurehead President.  Disestablish the Church of England.  Abolish religious indoctrination in schools.  Abolish "faith" schools.  Abolish all religious priviledge.

Why is this idea important?

Abolish the monarchy and titles of nobility

How can we profess to be a truly democratic and modern society when we subsidise a head of state selected on the basis of hereditary privilege?

We should be allowed to elect our head of state. Someone who actively engages with the electorate. Only an elected head of state can adequately protect our civil liberties. A hereditary ruler has no legitimacy whatsoever.

The United Kingdom. Where anyone can rise to be King.

We should have an elected head of state and they should be King or Queen. This allows us to remain a 'kingdom' and enjoy the pagentry and history associated with it. If the person has family their kids become princes and princesses !

The current royal family stop having special rights and their titles/ position no longer recognized by the government. However, individuals have the choice to call them their queen/king if they want to. They just no longer have to.

The actual role of the head of state is for a different discussion. This is an idea for the mechanism.

Vote for this if you want to be King or Queen !

Declare a Republic

Republics define the roles and rights of their citizens, monarchies rely on notions of subservience and the one-way loyalty of subjects.

We should have the right to decide who should be our Head of State; it should not be dictated by accident of birth. The people of these lands are grown up enough to make that choice for themselves.

Abolish all the laws relating to peerages, house of lords, CBEs, MBEs, KBEs, etc

We should create a modern republic that rewards hard work and contributions to society rather than some back-scratching peerage or knighthood for someone who's funded whatever political party.

Why not have a second chamber elected by PR rather than the current system of appointments and elitism.

Allowing us to call for a Republic or get rid of the Monarchy.

I would like to express my opinions about the monarchy or to call for the UK to be a Republic without the risk of prosecution. I'm not sure that I would actually call for us to be a Republic but it seems very unfair that an institution that I and generations of my ancestors have funded cannot be questioned, challenged or abolished.
