Curb Local Authority spending

One of the most basic freedoms is the freedom to spend your own money on whateverr you, personally, want.  Many local authorities arrogate this right to themselves, by imposing higher council tax to pay for the schemes wanted by small pressure groups.  In my area the town council caved in to demands froma small number of people for a civic theatre/arts centre.  In a referendum they won by about 1%, so since then the council has spent over £1,000,000 of taxpayers' money building and subsidising the place.  It is time this kind of thing was brought to an end – local authorities should be restircted in how much money they can spend on activitites that they are not legally required to carry out.  I would opt for a return to the old measure, one old penny in every pound of rates was the maximum allowed for "nice to have" spending.  Repeal and/or amend the legislation that set local authorities free to spend whatever they want on whatever they like.  Perhaps replace it with a standard of 1p in every £1 of council tax raised – much more generous than the old measure – but allow higher spending if, and only if, it is approved by a 75% majority of those entitled to vote in council elections.  That would bring them roughly into line with the requirments for extraordinary spending by private copanies, which have to get shareholder approval for such things as takeovers.

Policing: Reducing Paperwork

I recently had cause to have to report a crime to the Met Police: the two officers who attended were the very image of professionalism but it was pointed out to me, after the box ticking and long-hand writing of a statement for me to sign, that this would need to be typed up when they returned to their station.

It strikes me that where Ocado, Sainsbury and others can use PDAs, why can't the local constabulary? This would halve the amount of effort necessary and get more police back on the beat serving the public.

Build new prisons where employment is needed most

If new prisons are required to replace old uneconomic prisons it is common sense to build them in areas where employment is needed most. A 1500 place prison is said to provide over a thousand jobs, in a depressed area such as parts of Wales that would be a thousand people off of benefits and be a major boost to the regeneration of the area.

I note that the MOJ are currently pursuing a rural site in Runwell, Essex, a site earmarked in the LDF as a housing site. Runwell is in an area that does not need regeneration as it has reasonably high employment. To my certain knowledge i know that the leader of the overseeing council of Chelmsford has written personally to the Minister of Justice Mr. Blunt stating that fact, (And this despite the fact that the MOJ are offering a £20 million sweetener in return for outline planning permission)

In this time of belt tightening it does not make economic sense to force such a development on a green belt site where it is not wanted, when depressed areas would welcome the development with open arms and a £20 Million sweetener would not be required.

Communication between Gov’t departments

I would like to see more communication between government departments. Mainly housing and council benefit from councils being able to access working tax credits and other departments to check a claimants monetry situation if they are on any benefits etc.

At the moment the councils can only get the information if they send out letters to people and usually send half a trees worth at a time and wait for a reply. This is a lengthy process fraught with pitfalls along the way.

My council tells me that at present they cannot do this despite the fact many people ask why they can't. I would gladly sign a form on my application to say I allow/give my permission for them to contact other govn't offices to check I am claiming the right amount. I have nothing to hide and I want to make the process easier where the room for error is minimalised.

I am fed up of waiting for the tax credits people to actually answer their phones so I can chase up where my award notice is that I need to send to the council so they can check my claim is up to date. Usually this process can take ages which then means overpayments and councils then try to claim this back which is a whole lot harder to do and is very frustrating to all.

Reduce the cost of Benefits and Benefit Fraud

The essential point of benefits is to give the needy the means to eat, keep a roof over their heads, and pay essential bills. Many hard working people are resentful of the amount that inevitably gets spent on smoking, drinking, Sky TV,  etcetera.

With technologies available today, it would not be difficult to issue claimants with a card similar to a Bank card. Money gets credited to the Card directly from the Government. With the co-operation of the supermarkets and utilities, it would not be difficult to ensure that only appropriate items can be bought using the card that would fulfil the role of the welfare state from an 'approved basket'.

If people want the ability to spend money on less essential products like the 12-pack of Special Brew or a full Sky package, then they will need to earn some money to get it. It would also be possible to encourage healthy eating and discourage foods that have contributed to the obesity issue.

what child trust fund??

scrap the child trust fund scheme. millions of pounds go into trust funds for all our children, every day.  £2oo is a drop in the ocean to the many wealthy parents recieving this and they cannot just choose to not redeem the amount, it will just automatically go into a government chosen account. it hasnt been much help to the less fortunate of us, so far, either. i would love to know that there is a little nest-egg slowly growing into something substantial for my son (unfortunately my daughter missed out) but, every year when i get his annual statement there is less and less there. by the time he is old enough to cash in, there will be nothing left. i have not been able to add to it so far, but if i had, i dont think i would, after seeing the negative interest. anyway, shouldnt i be the one to decide how to save for my childrens future? stop this mad, fruitless giveaway and put the money saved to better use!

Freedom of information act

I would like to see an end to this act it serves no purpose and has put an additional cost on the public purse dealing with all the inquiries that the press submit every day. Like how many road kills has been collected by councils and distroyed or how many street lights were repaired. This means that time and money are wasted each and every by councils doing searches which really no normal member of the public cares about.

International usergroups for military hardware

Five of NATO member states are part of the so called EPAF: European Participating Air Forces. This group consists of five Air Forces, who joined forces on the operational logistics of their F-16A/B's and embarked upon a combined (together with the USAF) modernisation of the F-16 (the Midlife Update programme).

Great Britain has to cut heavily on defence spending. Yet, each and every time the RAF, the Naval Air Arm and the Army Air Corps seem to want something different than the countries surrounding the UK. The WAH-64 Apache AH1 differs so much from the Apaches of the US Army and the RNLAF (other Apache users), that no logistic economies of scale can be realized. The same is more or less true for the Tornado Force, Joint Force Harrier and the Typhoon.

Why not agree on an international standard and try to form international usergroups for miliatry equipment and weapons? If small countries can achieve considerable economies of scale, so should Britain! Why let the Brirtish armed forces go to waste because of the interests of industry?

public sector salary cut of 10% £15k – £19.9k, 20% cut up to £30k, 25% above

As the private sector has taken average 20% pay cut over last year and very little contribution to pension payments the public sector should also 'take a hit' in pay and benefits. That is the pensions, which are much better. Listen to any police, teacher or goverment worker that retired in the last 10 years or so that 'THEY NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD'. More money than they know what to do with, also being able to retire MUCH earlier than the 'general' private sector workers.

Why do police and the NHS employees 'sell' their services back to the public services after retireing at 50 or 55. Or in the NHS resigning and going 'private' or into agencies at very much inflated rates which then cost the police and NHS loads of money.

They also get a INFLATION linked pension, what's that…..

Solve some of the problems

Scrap (temporarily) immigration until work is available for all U.K. born (& 2nd generation)

Provide work for all 16 year old and above and scrap ALL benefits, saving enormous amounts in Admin. costs EXCEPT for Military injured on active service, who should automatically be given Blue Badges (Disabled Drivers) or free travel, ALL Hospital Treatment and Medication also free.

Jobs to be createdwhere neccessary for disabled (e.g. Toilet Attendants, Car Park Attendants, Lift Men/Women, Cal Centre Operators etc etc

ALL transport to be electric wherever possible to cut cost of Oil imports

All Defence spending to be in U.K. ONLY: thus no dependance on parts from another country, jobs for u.k. citizens no outflow of cash to pay for Americal, Canadian etc products

ALL operations owned by overseas interests (e.g. Anglian Water: France: Electricite de France, France Telecom, Santander, Telefonica, Deutsche Telecom etc) so that we are not held to ransom by external influences.

Encourage ALL  development of electrically powered items to replace any item using imported fuel. (Think WW2 convoys – if it had to be brought in by convoy substitute a home grown item) and havingdeveloped the electrical power unit EXPORT, EXPORT, EXPORT

Finally ensure NO building work granted permission unless green and ecologically sound

AND ALL rules/laws RIGIDLY enforced by Policing policies under close Governmental scrutiny

Privatised Met Office – Bring It on…..

Go ahead and privatise the Met Office: it might stop them banging on about 'Climate change' as if it's a foregone conclusion.

Hang on – I'll just have a look…

Wait…. they already have! It's 'Climate Science' Now.. All very different from just a few months ago. It was all cut and dried then; anyone who disagreed was likened to a member of the Flat Earth Society. Now, they're using phrases like :

"Because we can’t know the future for certain, our climate change scientists use computer-based climate models to project plausible scenarios, or projections, for coming centuries. It is important to be aware that projections from climate models are always subject to uncertainty because of limitations on our knowledge of how the climate system works and on the computing resources available. Different climate models can give different projections…."

"Despite the uncertainties, all models show that the Earth will warm in the next century"…

NEXT CENTURY…. pretty safe bet that – it could be ANY time in the next century. It could be by ANY amount.

Uncertanties – What uncertainties? When New Labour was in power, global warming, caused by CO2 emissions, was presented as FACT! (And of course, provided bags and bags of possibilties for 'Green Taxes' – for those green enough to swallow it.)

So – what's changed, in 6 months? The climate? Not really – typical British Summer.

Or could it be the change of government, a chance that their funding may be in danger, and having to face the possibility of life in the real world?

But wait… What's this? 'Global Dimming?'

Caused by…. pulling the wool over our eyes?  No – aerosols actually. Haven't we been here before?

the government should pay for the funerals

and help support the families of all the genuinely disabled people in this country that will and in some cases already have killed themselves over decisions made in their Work Capability Assessments and DLA Medicals and the worry the prospect of losing their DLA is already causing them, like the man in scotland who was found dead next to two letters informing him that he was having all his benefits removed.

No future ideological cuts by the conservatives

Abolish the future ideological cuts that the conservatives want to make.

We are not in this together. The conservatives have money; lots of other people who rely on government services do not.

Having charities and volunteers provide government  services is a terrible idea. I don't want to volunteer to do things government should be doing.

Forcing GPs to make many decisions about what services to offer is a dreadful idea. Great way to privatise the NHS, David!

Privatising the Met Office – dreadful!

The people of this country appear to be willing to sit back and let the conservatives dismantle their society. The conservatives stand for nothing, except keeping money in their pockets. WAKE UP AND FIGHT BACK!

The NHS – some savings

The idea is in three parts:

*   to reduce the number of clerical and management staff so as to provide, once again, more beds than administration people

*   to encourage people, by way of a tax break, to take up private health insurance and thus be able to pay for treatment outside ot the NHS with the concomitant huge cost savings

*   review the so-called Private Public Initiativewhereby the NHS leases back premises – an ongoing and very expensive exercise – and renegotiate the terms

Stop announcements rather put forward ideas to the bodies concerned

My idea is straightforward and simple.  I am disabled, I am Fifty years old and I have been fortunate to have received a good education, continue through University, and work before and after a post graduate year.  Unfortunately, due to poor health, pain and frequent fatigue, I have been medically severanced, I pay tax and council tax.  I also am forced to top up the difference to my pension with Incapacity Benefit and I am in receipt of Disability Living Allowance.

The point I wish to make is, please look at every person as an individual.  I am depressed as well as living with a chronic condition, and a debilitating spinal injury which is treated by opiate medication.  I would love to have my health back and to work again, however, this is something I have been advised against doing.  I have tried going back to work by attempting to hold down a voluntary job in an area I thoroughly enjoyed.

With respect, I am finding Mr. Cleggs attitude about working being the best thing for people who are claiming benefit and that once in the system it is difficult to get out.  Please, I beg, do not tar everyone with the same brush.  There must be countless people like myself.  I am on Incapacity Benefit and DLA, I am worried beyond words, I am not sleeping and making myself ill.  I am being referred to the local mental health team because of all this.  Last year I was called in by Atos for a return to work medical, my GP intervened, It is not practical.  Donna from Atos informed me that I could have two years to get over it.  This shocked me beyond belief.  If I could I would cease claiming incapacity benefit, in fact any goverment benefit which over the years I have paid into through National Insurance Contributions and Tax.

I have been badly affected by Mr. George Osborne's DLA medical proposals, It was only whilst I was receiving Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, that my mobility component was increased and this was for a fixed time, last year, It was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders when I was awarded DLA for an indefinite period.

Like many other people I am feeling extremely anxious, vulnerable and have no where to turn.  I am someone with a Degree and a vote.  I have worked for a major company, I have held a position of responsibility and taught.  I am considering returning to teach and all for reasons which i am being forced into.  I am extremely worried about my future.  My white blood cell count is lowering, due to stress, lack of sleep and bujeting on a spreadsheet isn't helping.  Without my DLA I lose my mobility, no car, i will be even worse than now about attending my hospital appoinments.

Please, this is my suggestion, that rather than suddenly announcing to the public about such cuts, you did it again last week to the middle classes about Winter Payments.  I am I have to say a bit ignorant there as I am not  a person who claims them, I am  not on Income Support but Incapacity Benefit, I pay my own prescriptions and my life is sorting out a dosette box, starving myself regularly for ultra shound x rays.  You see, i have two three major conditions, two chroninc and potentially fatal, the other one is degenerative, it will get worse.  At the moment I see very little point in existing any more, I am close to tears, I believe that I am not the only one, I have read similar stories.  If someone, irrespective of having worked before or not is on Incapacity and DLA then there has to be a reason.  It took much investigation, medicals, specialists and doctors being consulted before I was awarded the higher rate mobility and middle rate care;  I am fotunately able to now afford the help of a lady who has a key and if I was in so much pain would stay in my spare room..  I am indepedant and like to do what I can, however pain kicks in all too quickly and I am relying on my help.  I am fortunate to have my car, I do not drive it when I am having a painful episode as I take break through medication on top of that which is prescribed, I also take medication for my other two conditions.

I apologise if this is appearing to be about myself.  What it is, is an individual account.  I am one of many, many people all with stories to tell about my fears, concerns, how I would adddress a problem like you the Goverment are faced with.  I was no fan of the last Pm, however there is a man who pushed his health into the ground.  I just feel that WE ( THE PEOPLE AFFECTED BY YOUR NEW POLICIES) do not stand a chance to put forward to you how we feel, I know I am not alone in this.  I do not have much strength left in me here, but something has to be done and I am appealing to you to go about all of this in a different way.  Please go about this differently, consult disability organisations, it is easier that you think to find the scroungers on the system, most of them are sitting at home claiming Income support or ESA and Drinking to excess.

Allow us to vote where our lottery grant money gets allocated and allow us to use to for more meaningful benefits such as NHS , Schools etc

Currently the lottery commision divie's up where the lottery grant money goes to and some of the grants are used to fund projects that are not necessary the best use of public money.

Given the current state of our finances and cuts which are due upon us , I feel this should be reviewed and it would be good if we could vote as to where we would like our money to be allocated.

I would like to see lottery grants going to more meaningful projects such as

1 – Cancer Research

2- Your Local NHS trust and hosptial

3- Your local school

4 – Your local police and fire service

Use the money for the geninue pressing causes , not waste it on stupid things

Why is this idea important?

Abolish PCSO’s not policemen

Abolish PCSO's. They are well paid with no more power than a glorified traffic warden. Did you know they cannot, by law:  Make an arrest. Take a crime report. Charge anyone with a crime. They simply have the power to issue fixed penalty tickets!  They are hardly justified when we are talking of public cuts to the police, including murder squads and terrorism officers!

Dressed in pretend police uniforms, complete with stab vests, they were introduced to fool the public into thinking "we have more police on the streets".  It would be a joke if not for the fact that one and a half PCSO's could pay for one more fully trained, qualified and professional police officer in our police stations!
