Tax early retirement, even retrospectively

Impose additional taxation on people who retire or have retired early (except through significant ill health) to compensate for their reduced contribution to society.

Scrap Trident

If you want to save £20billion cut Trident rather than cutting arts and culture, MLA and Film Council. The arts actually contribute to the economy in terms of VAT and the taxes of those employed, for the moment, in the cultural sector.

Mandate use of Job Centre Plus advertising for Gov/Public Secor jobs

The Job Centre Plus does not have all the Government and Public Sector jobs listed as a matter of course for external jobs (off these are listed with agencies and recruitment sites as alternatives). This should be manadatory, why not show faith in Governments own services?

putting those old quango buildings to good use

When you have closed down all these quangos you will have hundreds of empty buildings. These should be converted to flats or temporary accommodation which can then be used to house the homeless and these people who are in private accommodation and being paid massive housing benefits.

Fine People £1000 per incident for proven Hoax/Malicious Calls to Police/Fire/Ambulance

Recently Surry Fire Department said half of their year's calls were malicious! Surely something needs to be done to reduce this and have our Fire and Police working effectively.

zero tax rate for public sector

The salary of those in the public sector is paid for by tax revenue but is then in turn taxed at the standard tax rate – this results in a double handling of the money – in some cases up to 30% of an employees wages are returned simply to pay the wages of another public sector worker –this does not fit with any of the main principals of LEAN handling of cash revenue – at each stage there are inefficiencies

I propose reducing the tax rate in the public sector to 0% over a numbe rof years – achieved by a combination of gross pay freeze compensated by tax  rate reduction in order to provide a net income increase year on year

This would then provide saving due to reduced double handling  and allow a reduced inland revenue department to save costs through reduced work load and the need to handle issue e.g sending out coding notices etc to those no longer taxable

In addition it would provide an incentive to work in public sector while not increasing overall costs

No state funding towards the Pope’s visit

The Pope's visit to the UK next year was expected to cost the state £8m, bit Lord Patten revealed today that it could cost £12m. This figure doesn't include policing costs.

Save money by asking the Catholic Church or private contributors to pay for the entire costs of this visit, including a contribution towards policing costs.

Stop Renaming Quangos and Government Departments

Quangos and Government Departments appear to be renamed on a regular basis, costing huge sums of money to the taxpayer and to businesses. Internal costs include: creating a new remit; involving HR in relocating and recompensing members of staff (who often move to the new department/quango at the same or higher salary); finding new premises; replacing all printed stationery including personalised business cards; cost of building new website, new domain area and relocation of previous website; cost of 'rebranding' and advertising etc.

Quite often the remit of the new deparment/quango is very similar to the remit of the old one, and can be handled without all the above expense. Businesses dealing with the original department/quango can find their costs increasing in the short term as they struggle to meet new requirements, and complete and provide new forms giving information already provided in a different way to the previous department/quango.

One example of a recent name change is  the Learning and Skills Council (once described as Britain's largest quango), which has recently changed its name to the Skills Funding Agency. The acronym for this new department is so apt, one wonders how soon it will once again go through a name change.

Allow water supply to be limited

Many consumers fail to pay water bill, but the water supply can not be cut-off for health reasons.  This led to the use of 'trickle flow' devices that limited the flow rate.  These were also banned.  Now there is millions of pounds of unpaid water bills, which the responsible sector of society are paying for.

taxation ideas

I know that the main purpose of this site is to suggest laws for removal, but i do want to suggest a brilliant little money -earner to contribute towards reducing the deficit.Having just returned from about my 6th visit to Turkey,i have now contributed £60 towards their exchequer. All aliens arriving in Turkey apart from Germans due to some separate arrangement, have to hand over a £10 note in return for a stamp in their passport.Ostensibly it is a 'visa' but it is just a stamp.(No change given, and must be cash.if you only have a £20 note that's tough!!) So why don't we do the same? All non-EU arrivals could pay say £20 as they enter.I have no idea how many people this would involve, but it would soon add up to a sizeable amount of cash,as thousands come in every day.No £20 no entry. No delays.you have to put the money in your passport in the photograph page, and they just remove the money and stamp your passport.Talk about money for old rope!! But it's a great idea.

MOTORING TAX

Foreign juggernauts don't pay tax to use and damage our roads.Road tax should be included in fuel tax.

Advantages:

1. No dodging of road tax Every road user pays, and it cuts down on Police time and Court costs etc..

2. Those who drive the most and use most fuel pay more in line. with usage.

3.Foreign drivers contribute which is fair as we have to do in France and probably many other countries.

4,Cuts out administration which is costly

No Civil Servant or Quango Head Earns more than the Prime Minister

That no civil servant or Quango head (Quango head is not verbal abuse or an insult…..although…'Oh! Quango 'ed' does have a certain ring) anyway, they should not earn more than the Prime Minister.

Feel free to use the phrase above when addressesing overpaid civil servants. I wave all copyright.

Cut out all the waste in audit and inspection

Stop the millions wasted every year in box ticking exercies for autiors and quangos. Allow delviery to be outcome based and the qulaity inspected at a local level with partners to meet local needs. This links into the need to develop multiple outcomes which the current system ignores.

Toll all motorways electronically for all cars containing only one person

1.  Toll every car containing no more than one person on every motorway in the UK

2.  Use this money to subsidise public transport.

3.  The tolling would be carried out digitally (like an Oyster card) to avoid queuing.

4.  Tolling would also be free for those with low emission cars.

Remove the end of year budget rush

The end of year budget ! how many times have you heard you must spend the budget or lose it! or  get a reduced budget for the following year.

It's time to say if it is not spent! just carry over the money to the following year.

I heard of a department spending millions on a building just to get rid of it's budget.
