Repeal National Insurance and employment taxes and replace witha Carbon Tax

Gradually bring in a Carbon Tax for every item sold.  This would have to be flexible while the carbon use was calculated.  The tax would  pay for the money lost when National Insurance was stopped.

Why is this idea important?

Use of macro renewable energy sources not nuclear power

Why does the government plan to waste billions of pounds developing the nuclear industry when the money could be far better spent on installation of renewable energy sources at a macro production level?

New homes builders could be legislated to incorporate energy production via solar paneling, wind turbines (in certain areas of the country where this is proved to be effective) or boreholes to generate geothermal energy or a combination of both.  Standards for energy efficiency could also be raised with minimum requirements for insulation, heat retentive windows etc.

The government could also re-direct the planned billions of pounds of investment into nuclear energy into grants for the elderly and the poorest sectors of society to ensure the energy needs from the energy suppliers are significantly reduced.

Remove restrictions on Listed Buildings

Too many houses have been include on the Listed Building register because Local Authorities were told they would get money to provide grants. This is now not the case (in fact it only realistically lasted a few years from 1974). However, the restrictions on a vast swathe of domestic houses are preventing sustainable development. Remove all lower grade residental buildings from to Listed Building register – retain Planning Permission/Development Control requirements but stop the hamstringing of people who want to sensitively develop there house to accommodate changing needs and community resources simply becasie the building was listed for often spurious reasons.

This will also allow Local authorities to save more money in Conservation officers, planning personnel time and expense in general admin and in defending the many appeals etc.
