VAT lowered for Private College owners

Can the VAT not be lowered for Private College owners/Private University owners??  It feels like if you dare to do well- you get penalised as all the ‘‘profit’’ goes in VAT.  We’re a small outfit of eight permanent staff members- with part time lecturers and approx 400 international students. With the VAT rising next year – if we dare to do well, we’ll be making just enough money to stay in business!!

Reform VAT rules

VAT was originally intended as a tax on luxuries but is now charged on almost all essentials, including domestic fuel and some foods, while other goods which we could survive without are either zero-rated or exempt, such as books (other than educational), newspapers and magazines. The system badly needs reforming. If this was done, the rise in VAT to 20% would not be necessary.

Repeal the VAT rise regressive and punitive

The 2.5% hike in VAT was called unavoidable by Osbourne WHY ? There are many ways of raiseing TAX revenue but they were avoided. VAT is regressive and punitive harming most those that have the least OAPs, The Sick, The dIsabled, those on benefits all of these are on very low fixed incomes and will not have the disposable income that many have. Over a year on just buying one item milk the costs will rise by £30 over the year..thats just one item imagine an OAP or a sick person affording that kind of rise accross the board. This regressive nasty tax must be repealed and replaced with one of the many other revenue streams available.

The banks are being given a 3% decrease in corporation TAX, WHY ? raise it for the banks

Income Tax could be raised slightly

NI could have been chosen

Closing the massive tax avoidance loop holes

Getting the Banks to repay the 100's of billions spent on sorting out thier mistakes.

VAT was not unavoidable it was chosen, when there were alternatives that would not have hit the weakest so hard.

Make the Tax System Simpler!

I don't understand why the tax system has to be so complicated, you have income tax, council tax, national insurance contributions as well as tons more "direct" & "indirect" taxes. Whilst HMRC has done a great job with their new self assesment online system it still is far to complicated, especially for those of us with small businesses.

Listed Building as your residence.

By law all repairs to a Listed Building have to be carried out in the appropriate traditional manner.  This is almost inevitably many times more expensive than using modern methods and materials.  By law I have to pay very high bills which can be unaffordable for many people – PLUS – I then have to pay VAT on top of a highly inflated repair bill because I have had to use the most expensive traditional methods.

It is unjust.  It is hard enough to have to pay say three times modern costs without having to pay three times the VAT as well.

There are many pensioners who live in houses which are Listed – mine is Grade II Listed.  The country should be grateful for home-owners preserving these buildings, they are our heritage.  It is unjust to penalise them with extra heavy VAT.  No VAT on Listed Building repairs!
