I think this idea is important because of the following:
- The victim of the crime may not be able to afford to replace or repair damage caused by the criminal, nor should they have to. Criminals will actually be responsible for the damage they cause.
- Claiming on insurance can increase the victims policy when renewing, this is often not covered in any court compensation and is a cost that can go on for years.
- The victim may have to make modifications to their property as a result of a crime (to meet new insurer demands). This is on top of having to replace or repair items.
- Reduce the need for victims to claim on insurance, and will stop us seeing insurance as the de-facto answer to someone else crime.
