As I understand the current law, unscrupulous organisations can send unsolicited texts and charge the recipient upto £4.50 a week for the privilege of receiving them!  For example, I received a text message out of the blue, and was charged £3 for it. This would have been repeated at weekly intervals had I not stopped it. Judging by the five-figure fines PhonePayPlus are regularly imposing on some of these texting organisations, this is a multi-million pound industry. Many innocent people are being ripped off by these companies, some of them don't even realise it.

The law should be changed to prevent any level of charging for texts without written authorisation from the consumer.

Why is this idea important?

Millions of our citizens are subject to this fraud.
