The 1974 Health & Safety at Work Act, to be updated & simplified.

Ambiguities & outdated clauses should be repealed.

The December 2008 HSE 3rd Simplification Plan, should be enacted and the included in a modernised act.

Why is this idea important?

The original 1974 Act & subsequent revisions has been responsible for heaving huge quantities of expensive red tape on to employers & emplyees alike.

The prescriptive nature of the act, should be modernised and should recognise the individual responsibilities of employers & employees alike.

A complete modernisation of the act will reduce the army of `inspectors' employed to enforce the unenforceable and will ensure private sector competative tendering for public sector contracts is made cheaper
