The big idea

This is a link to a case that hit the headlines some time ago:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8277378.stm

The law appears to prohibit two people making arrangements to look after each other's children.  this is a private arrangement between two individuals – Government and our legal system have no right to be involved.  Surely this is a candidate for rapid repeal?

Why does this matter?

Increasingly over the last 15 years we have tended to rely on Government to do more for us and take responsiblity for us.  It is key that the balance is pulled hard in the other direction.  As a population we need to take more ownership for our actions and take responsiblity for our lives and dependents – and not expect the Government to do everything for us.  In this particular case, it is outrageous that the Criminal Justice system can intervene in a babysitting arrangements between two mothers.
