Religion in schools

The idea

Remove the  law requiring  compulsory RE and predominantly religious assemblies in all state funded and private schools (including faith scjhools) .  At one stroke this would remove one of the biggest headaches for Heads;  free up the curriculum & timetable; take away a bone of conflict between pupils compelled to attend irrelevent and often irreverend lessons; enable a teacher or two in other more important subjects to be employed instead.

Why is it important?

Religion is no part of the state's business. It is a matter purely for the private arrangment of parents. It also prevents the setting up of Humanist or Atheist schools, which is unfair
