The idea
I think that free travel for school children should be stopped. (Not including free travel provided for children with special needs).
Why is it important?
We need to cut back on much of the unnecessay spending in order to reduce the country's debt. This is a luxury given to school children/their families which can no longer be afforded.
Children (and their parents) should be expected to walk to school, cycle etc. It is unfair that hardworking and often low paid adults can not get on buses/get seats on buses on their journeys to and from work because they are full of children that could easily walk journey they are travelling.
Providing free bus travel to school children is contradictory to the message that we should all be leading healthier lives by exercising more! The only exeption I can think of to removing free travel is for those who are not offered school places within a reasonable distance to their homes.
