Repeal laws which diminish parental responsibility

All laws which seek to diminish the right/duty of parents to be responsible for their children should be repealed.

This would cover such acts as the use of child seats in cars, the right to know what medical/lifestyle advice is being given to them etc

It would also ensure that parents are responsible, in law, for the acts of their children and so be liable to make recompense.

Repeal all laws designed to protect ourselves from ourselves

All laws that seek to protect adults from their own actions should be repealed.

We are responsible for our own health and well being and it is not right that the State treats adults like children.

Cancel listed buildings restrictions on residential buildings

At the moment there are a lot of restrictions as to what the owner of a listed building can do to their property.

An Englishman's (or a Scotsman…) home is his castle and owners of listed buildings should be just as entitled as any house owner to make modifications to their house.

If the house is primarily used as a dwelling then it should have no more restrictions on it than a 'normal' house.

Repeal most money laundering regulations

Businesses are not the guardians of the country and should not be required to monitor or check the identity of their clients who wish to carry out inherently legal acts.

There should be no requirement for companies or citizens to report the legal actions of people to the Government.

In fact it should be illegal for anybody to pass the information of a client (or other person with whom they have a fiduciary duty or other client contract) to any person or organisation (inc the State) without a Court Order based upon some evidence of wrongdoing.

Stop all laws where MPs/politicians are treated less restrictively

There are numerous laws created in Parliament in which MPs are treated more favourably than ordinary people.

An example is that which set a maximum cap on a pension fund – EXCEPT for MPs.

Another is the EU law which scrapped duty free on items within the EU unless you are an MEP or one of the EU staff.

All laws must apply to people equally.   In some cases there are situations whereby the politicians must be treated more harshly but NEVER less.

General election voting at polling station only

That the encouragement of voting otherwise than at a polling station should be removed.  In fact it should be impossible to vote other than at a polling station for anyone who is not medically incapable (and not just difficult) of getting to the station.  Being out of the country is just tough.

An election, especially if we have fixed terms, is known about well in advance and, if people care, they should make themselves available to vote in person on the day.

Compensation for people prosecuted and found not guilty

People who are prosecuted for an offence and found not gulty should be given some compensation for the inconvenience they have gone through and the damage to their reputation.

Compensation for those not guilty on appeal

People who are convicted of a crime and found guilty, spend some time jail or other punishment and then later found not guilty should always get compensation.

If they are found not guilty then they are innocent, at least legally, and so should receive compensation for the loss they have suffered.

Get rid of laws which specify what is dangerous driving

Dangerous driving should be punished because it is dangerous.  People should not be punished for, for example, driving while talking on a mobile phone.  It is only a problem if it is dangerous in which case there is already a law for it and no need for all these specific laws and crimes.

Restoration of sense to Highway Code

The Highway Code used to mostly say what was considered safe etc on a road and had very few 'MUST' or 'MUST NOT's in it.

This meant that drivers were not immediately breaking the law for doing something which, in their particular circumstances, was sensible even necessary but is illegal.

Allow any units of measurement

People in a free country should be entitled to use any scale of measurement that they wish – metric, imperial, babylonian whatever – in their own lives.  Government can choose which system(s) it wishes to use for its own transactions, signs etc.  Clearly this would influence people but not force them.

People can select the business that uses the system they prefer.

Get rid of ‘equal pay for for equal work’

There should be no requirement to pay equally for equal work.  There is no job that is identical to another and is carried out identically by different people.

People should be paid upon what they are able to 'demand' and what the employer is willing to pay.

Deregulate employment laws

There should not be any restriction on a company's right to terminate an employee's employment.  Any restrictions should be governed by the specific contract of employment.

If a company no longer has a need for an employee or feels that the employee is no longer worth employing then they should be allowed to react appropriately.

Replace income tax with VAT

Income tax is a temporary (technically) tax which penalises hard work and savings (double taxation).  Replacing it with VAT would make citizens' lives easier and also penalise consumption which would be a 'green' approach to take.   Would enable VAT to include a resources element to make use of resources more expensive and keep items such as food etc cheaper.

Capital Gains Tax

Why not make calculation/payment of Capital Gains Tax more like betting tax where you could pay an amount on the purchase price OR on any gain.  The advantages are much simpler for the citizen, govt gets some income earlier.

Amend smoking ban – to only cover true public spaces

The present smoking ban makes smoking in many private properties illegal.  It does these by defining these private properties as public.   Just because a member of the public may be allowed access to these properties does not make them public.

Instead the law should ban smoking in true public places including all government (local and national) offices and maybe even parks (of at least a certain space)

Remove power of Civil Recovery by SOCA and others

It is unreasonable in a free society that the Government, or any of its agencies, should have the power to confiscate, seize or tax assets or income from people who have not been convicted of a relevant crime.

All the powers, initially granted to the Assets Recovery Agency, must be removed and no such powers allowed until conviction has been obtained except as a temporary measure to ensure the non-disappearance of assets before a prosection can be initiated.

Cancel number plate recognition on public highways

There are no grounds for monitoring the car journeys of citizens in the UK.

Only the journeys of those whom the police or security services are specifically monitoring, maybe with a court warrant, should be able to recorded.

Reduce intrusiveness of E-borders

The E-borders project records and monitors far too many details about the trips of its citizens.

There are no reasonable grounds for the Government needing to know the destination, method of payment, companions etc etc of its citizens when they make a foreign or domestic trip.

To collect such information should require a Court Warrant just as the search of a person's home should.

Repeal Extradition Act 2003

This Act seriously eroded the duty the Government has to protect its citizens from unsafe or baseless prosecutions from overseas countries.

Preferably this Act should be fully repealed or at least amended so that:

  • A basic case should bemade to a British court before someone can be sent abroad to face trial in another country.
  •
  • If the crime is alleged to have occurred in whole or in part in the UK then the person should not be extradited if a court here decides that it is not in the interests of justice to extradite.
