The idea
For the government to stipulate that all new CCTV cameras in both public and private areas are covered in high visibility material.
Why is it important?
Given that the courts ruled that speed cameras on the road must be covered in reflective, high visibility day-glow material otherwise their use would be illegal. I would like to propose that the same should apply to CCTV cameras. People should be made more aware of exactly when and how often they are being filmed. Currently cameras in both the private sector and public are often hidden, dark, with deliberately poor signage. It would be preferable if the government would require all new CCTV cameras installed to be covered in a high visibility material alerting the public to the fact they are being filmed.
