Abolish the TV Licence

It's nice not having adverts on BBC channels, but couldn't they find another way to fund the BBC?

The BBC is an organisation set up purely to 'inform, educate and entertain'.  Which is a good thing, but isn't that what all TV channels do? The BBC could stick to their motto still by focussing on the internet instead, which would be cheaper.

All TV owners in the country have to pay for the BBC, yet everyone else in the world can watch it's content for free online!

Abolish the TV Liscence

It is nice not having adverts on BBC channels, but couldn't they find a different way to make money and stop charging every TV owner for the TV liscence?

We pay for the BBC, yet everybody else in the world can watch it's content for free on the internet!

Collect TV licence with council tax to reduce collection costs

I would like to propose that the law be amended so that the licence is payable by all and is collected by local councils (as happens with Police & Fire services. This would remove an extra tier of tax collectors working for TV licensing whilst not increasing the staff or workload of local councils.

This proposal keeps away from the debate on how to pay for the quality services of TV, radio and Internet that are provided through the current TV licence by the BBC. S4C, and others and is restricted to the collection mechanism.

Change the BBC licensing fee to subscription

Instead of having a compulsory tv license, why not have the BBC as a subscription channel. 140 pounds to pay for tv channels I don’t watch is wrong, I own a tv but do not watch any BBC programme. Yet I am breaking the law if I do not pay the fee.

Give us the opportunity to pay for the BBC if we want to instead of having a compulsory system.

Abolish the BBC Licence Tax

The BBC Licence is a TAX.  All income groups are required to fund the inflated salaries and lavish lifestyles of BBC Executives and 'stars.'

The BBC Licence TAX should be abolished.  The Government should fund a small public service broadcaster from general taxation – no more than 2 radio stations and 2 TV channels – and the rest of the BBC should be privatised.

Repeal the law requiring the purchase of a licence to own a TV set

A TV set is a passive piece of equipment and does not interfere with anything else.  It's a basic human right to be able to own and use personal property in one's own home, as long as it causes no harm to anyone else.  The government has no business legislating to interfere with that right.  The BBC should be funded from general taxation.

TV licence fee should be reclassified as a civil offence – not a criminal offence

Please support amendments intended to ensure that the TV licence  fee is recoverable as a civil matter only, following non-payment and failure to respond to a notice issued by OFCOM – not a criminal offence.  This is an unfair and outdated penalty.

The television licence fee is a "despised compulsory impost" and should be scrapped.  The annual charge and the BBC should be funded by other means.
