Repeal the European Communities Act

The idea

The Government is claiming that it will reduce the burden of regulations on British businesses and on individuals.  However it does not adit that its power to do so is very severely limited by our membership of the EU.  About 80% of our legislation and regulations come from the EU, and we have no control over them.

Why is it important?

The idea is important because Britain no longer has the right to decide what regulations should be imposed in the UK.   Parliament can debate EU Directives and Regulations, but it cannot amend a single word of them.  All it can do is gold-plate the resulting detailed regulations – a task which our civil servants tackle with relish.
