Easier Police access to facebook and other social networking sites

The idea

Investigating Police officers are not currently allowed to use Facebook or other social networking sites to help with with their investigations. The only way they can access these sites is to make a request to a centrally based Police resource (not even based at major Police stations). and that person will look on their behalf. Therefore Police officers find it difficult to access information which is readily available to the general public and to criminals. So much information is posted up on social networking sites that officers should be able to access this in the same way as you or I. In this era of technology we should not be hampering the Police by insisting that they use technology sparingly.

Why is it important?

By allowing easier Police access to Facebook and other social networking sites, and the mine of information held on them, there would a higher number of criminals arrested.
