Repeal Act of Settlement 1701

The Act of Settlement is a major piece of anti-catholic legislation.  In 21st Century a country like ours should not enshrine religious discrimination in law.  I appreciate the difficulties that are involved in repealing this law  but it is a major insult to loyal British people who are also catholic.

Why is it important?

The repeal of this law would finally show that our country is serious in having a genuinely equal society.  There is no room for  religious discrimination in law in this country and it is shameful that anti-catholic legislation is still acceptable in the UK.

One Response to Repeal Act of Settlement 1701

  1. Samuel Cullen says:

This is a great idea and I am a Catholic. I feel discriminated against. The Anglicans are not superior to us Catholics. The monarch and the royal family should be able to go through their own faith journey and not lose their succession. I get that the Church of England is the state religion, but that does not mean it is better than Catholicism. And the government certainly cannot force religion on anybody. I get that the Act of Settlement 1701 was to keep the Stuarts off the throne and the Hanoverians on the throne, but the Stuart claim is dead. this is a great idea and should be repealed in the House of Commons.
