Childrens human rights.

1 Comment 18th July 2010

Children are treated as chattels and are not consulted on their wishes and proper assessmebts are not carried out for court tug of love cases, they can be snatched from their home in one country and taken to another without adequate preparation, or proper social assessments, without being consulted on their wishes if a court makes a decision. What about the childs human rights, an intelligent five year old knows their own mind, yet they are deemed not old enough to make a decision. At whar age are we deemed to deserve our human rights, 18 ? Time the childs wishes were considered paramount and at the very least these cases should be considered more sensitively, the child should be prepared, consulted and social assesments carried out and their human rights should be given consideration.

Why does this matter?

It infringes these rights

  • the right not to be punished for something that wasn't a crime when you did it
  • the right to respect for private and family life
  • freedom of expression
  • the right to liberty

I agree to the fact that children must not be victimised for the wrong doings of their parents. For example, If the parents were illegal immigrants and after having enjoyed the liberty of schooling and getting accustomed to their birth land(England) culture.. removing them with their parents based on Home office decision is unjust when considering the human rights of that child. He or She is made a victim of their parents offence. This situation must stop.Bring back the 7 year concession for a child born in UK because this period of 7 years allows a child to settle in his born and broughtup culture with regard to a child born in UK.
