Raise taxes to fight wars or don’t fight them

If a government decides to war, and that war comes to a vote in Parliament, that vote would have to include a measure to increase taxes to fund the war. Perhaps add a penny to the basic rate of income tax if they wanted war.

Why is this idea important?

Repeal immunity from prosecution as condition of (09-10) Iraq Enquiry.

I find it ridiculous that for the government to have any sort of real investigation into the Iraq War it was a pre-condition that no one could be prosecuted for their actions.

The invasion of Iraq was illegal. Every applicable law unequivocally confirms this conclusion. There are no grey areas, no extenuating circumstances. Not according to the law.

When Tony Blair and George Bush decided to abandon the United Nations and launch their aggressive war against Iraq in March, 2003 they committed themselves to the most serious of all breaches of International law, “the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole”, as defined by the prosecutors at Nuremberg following the defeat of the Nazis.

Those responsible need to face the punishment for their actions not be recieving peace medals in the safe knowledge that they will never be held accountable for their heinous deeds.

Declaration of war by PM

Make it illegal for the PM to declare war on another nation without first getting the backing of 55% of MPs in a FREE vote in the commons.

The figure of 55% is chosen because this is the ConDems idea of a majority when it comes to a vote of confidence on the sitting government

Revoke the decision to keep the post mortem results for the death of Dr. David Kelly to be kept secret for 70 years.

Important information regarding the death of weapons expert, Dr David Kelly will not be revealed for 70 years.

It is claimed by doctors that he could not have comitted suicide.

With the Iraq enquiry now on going again, this man's death should be properly investigated.

Ban Depleted Uranium weapons

The Chernobyl disaster released 9.6 tons of uranium into the environment and is often seen as the worst radiological diaster in history.

Britain and the US have used 5000 tons of uranium munitions in Iraq and Afghanistan and this is causing huge numbers of cancers (a tenfold increase) and bizarre birth defects (up by six times the normal number).

The decay products of depleted uranium are actually more radioactive than the DU itself and this elevation in cancer and birth defects will last until all that uranium is taken out of the environment and safely stored away from the human population, the time taken for it become safe naturally can be measured in many billions of years.

The British military should not be using DU weaponry, the armour piercing advantage compared to the modern tungsten rounds is questionable at best and the cost in the lives of civilians and children is unacceptable.
