Repeal laws that prevent members of the public from recording telephone calls and using the recordings as evidence.

Several posts on the site imply or claim that social workers and other officials misrepresent what has taken place during dealings with members of the public. When ringing many organisations we are told that our calls may be recorded.

Please repeal the laws that prevent members of the general public from recording telephone calls which they make or receive, and recording or filming interviews with Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, etc. with the intention of using such recordings in evidence if this becomes necessary.

We have probably all had experience of salespeople who miss-sell, miss-describe the product or the payment methods, etc. often by telephone. Please repeal the laws that prevent us from recording these calls and using them as evidence if necessary.

free fun and unity day

freedom to hold a festival of fun and unity on common land without the forced expense of police to oversee every  move. the expense is set at such a rate that the cost of policing the event makes it IMPOSSIBLE to hold, the local authorities have the easy no go can do if you cant afford the police. volunteers to be stewards with crowd control training would be invaluable as would volunteers with security or door training to oversee such events. litter picking is another of the L/A bug bares, if we leave the place cleaner than when we started that always  go down well. recycling properly all rubbish left and no cross contamination is also another plus. the greener the festival the better i.e oil instead of diesel run gennies, solar and wind powered lighting and all electrical needs. organisation is the key to be able to run this sucessfully. show we are responsible and polite citizens and we do have common law rights.  freedom is not a gift its a way of life until we live in a dictators black shadow . keeping the faith in sites like this is also key.

Right to photograph in public places

There has been a trend in recent years for police – especially in London – to stop residents and tourists taking photographs in public places, on the pretext of stopping terrorism. Some have even been made to hand over cameras, or storage cards, or to wipe the pictures in front of the officer. The idea that these actions could ever make the slightest difference for a real terrorist is laughable. It is a complete nonsense, that makes those stopped with their cameras feel like they are in a police state behind the Iron Curtain in the 50's. The law should be clarified to ensure that no officer can stop a person taking photos in public places, per se.

Freedom to ride horses sensibly in public places.

There is a by-law in Belfast which means that horse riding is not permited in the parks around my stables. The parks are large and could easily accomodate both horses and pedestrians.

Cycle to Work Scheme – Transfer of Ownership

The cycle to work scheme is currently a hugely popular way of enabling employers to offer their employee's the chance of obtaining a tax free bike with most people saving in the region of 40% off the cost of a bicycle and accesories. In return the employee has to enter into a hire agreement with their employees over a set period and repay the cost of the bike (Minus VAT and with tax benefits) in equal monthly payments.

However, HMRC are threatening the very existence of the scheme.

HMRC's rules mean that an employer cannot state to the employee that they will either agree to enter into discussions to transfer the legal ownership of the bike before they sign up to the scheme, thus putting people off the scheme (who is going to want to pay up to a £1,000 for a bike without the guarentee of at least being made an offer to ownership in the future)

Secondly, HMRC state that the employee needs to pay what is known as a ‘fair market value' for the bike and accessories, otherwise further tax implications will apply for the individual concerned. The only problem is that they offer no guidance on how to do this other than that you cannot apply a rate of transfer on bikes across the board.

What instead they propose is that the bike is individually assessed, what this means in practice is that this increases the administrative burden associated with the scheme increasing costs and wasting resources by over complicating the process. They give no guarentee that this complies with their vague ruling thus reducing confidence in the scheme.

By also making the process more complicated and daunting than it needs to be it also makes the scheme less attractive to individuals wanting to sign up which will simply result in less people cycling and only contributing to this country’s huge carbon footprint.

It would be much simpler if a set of nationally agreed guidelines are drafted stating that a bicycle packages’ value after a defined time period is a % figure of the bicycle packages original retail value. This would make the scheme much easier to administer and it would save a enormous amount of time and effort from for organisations administering the scheme. As I say it is not just private sector businesses that run this scheme but public sector organisations too. This is one way government could actually bring about increased efficiency in the public sector.

The Government amend application processes for completing & registering Lasting Power of Attorney (both Property and Financial Affairs & Health and Welfare) AND that registering these should be free

To radically overhaul and simplify the application process for completion of both types of Power of Attorney. Members of the public should be involved in each stage of the redesign so that forms are easy to understand, even where complex pieces of information are being given. To also look at additional ways that these can be completed, examples include allowing online completion of the documents with ‘pop up’ clear help boxes at each section. On-line operator support in completion to explain certain terms. The ability to save forms online and return to them several times. Where these forms repeatedly require the same information, once entered, the information should populate/complete all the relevant sections throughout the entire form.

The registering of the documents should also be free, not least because of the financial savings common use of these Power of Attorneys would bring to the NHS and Social Services in managing and supporting the care needs of people who become incapacitated.

24Hr working to avoid disruption.

when resurfacing roads, upgrading raiways  etc etc etc

Why cant the job be done 24/7 to get the job done quickly and at a lot lower cost, There should be good project management to ensur all can be completed and this with strict pleneties if not should be in place.

I am sure that if the rail track was closed for a week the public would accept it knowing that woyld be the end of it , what the public does not like is the job going on forever and not knowing when and if it will be running next ,

This principle of upsetting the public,  remember they are the customer who is paying for all this in taxes but also in so many other ways, there seems to be a total lack of respect for the end consumer.

Limit Traveller and Squatters Rights

Remove all laws relating to squatters rights, treating squatting as a criminal rather than civil matter in all circumstances where the squattee does not have legal ownership of the property or land in question, allowing the immediate removal by police of such people.

Raise taxes to fight wars or don’t fight them

If a government decides to war, and that war comes to a vote in Parliament, that vote would have to include a measure to increase taxes to fund the war. Perhaps add a penny to the basic rate of income tax if they wanted war.

Drinking Alcohol in Public residential area’s

I would welcome a ban on the consumption of alcohol in residential area's if people want to drink in their gardens or homes then thats fine I enjoy a few pints myself now and then.

However many people find it intimidating have to pass close by large groups of people who have been drinking all day on the street outside their home.

It is even more daunting when this is in residential areas near schools where for example a person may be walking  home with their child/children.
