Sentencing should mean what is said

If someone is jailed for 15 years they should serve 15 years to the day. If someone is fined £300 they should pay £300. If someone is given 100 hours of community service that's what they should do. No more no less. If the judge / magistrates want to take into account the potential of them behaving in prison just give them less.

Also if someone is say given a jail sentence of two years and a ban on driving for three the driving ban should start after their release from prison.

Payment of council tax by instalments.

At the moment instalments are calculated by dividing the total council tax bill by ten and paying ten instalments starting from 1st April. I'm a pensioner who at the behest of the government has my annual retirement pension paid by thirteen instalments over the year.  Why can't I pay my council tax by the same token i.e. thirteen payments over the year.

I've tried to get an answer from my district and county councils but there is no one so deaf who as those who won't hear!  What other organisation gets 10% of its income in advance, even before the tax year starts and is paid in full after nine months and one day?

Charging of Statutory Interest for Late Payment to be mandatory.

Many small businesses are affected by poor payers, so much so that it has was tagged a new 'British Disease' in the 90's.  The Late Payment Act 'pill' intended to cure this disease has not worked (late payment of commercial debts (interest) act 1998).

This is a cultural problem brought about by (at least) indifference, or (at worse) corporate bullying or criminality.

Small business needs support in backing up their rights to Statutory Interest on the debt.

By making it mandatory to pay Statutory Interest after a short interest-free opportunity has passed, this would establish punctual payment as the norm, as it is in many other countries.
