Fixed penalty ticket fines on the railways

Comment 18th July 2010

All fixed penalty tickets for traveling without a valid ticket on any railway service should be banned and the terms and conditions of the draconian National Conditions of Carriage should be altered accordingly.

Why does this matter?

Passengers should be obliged to purchase a single fare for their journey at worst, instead rail companies such as South West trains are using this provision to extract a punitive twenty pounds out of people simply to boost their profits.
