Because town centre residents have lost their right to peaceful enjoyment of their property. The noise and disruption caused by having progressively more drunk people in the streets all night long makes it impossible to get a decent night's sleep. A reduction in the availability of alcohol would reduce general drunkenness and the pressure this puts on A&E services in the hospitals. It would also free the police to look after other things than pubs and clubs.
