Repeal the overtaking on the left motoring law

Currently is is an offence to overtake on the left. This law is illogical.

If you can be overtaken on the left then you are in the wrong position / speed on the road. The fault is yours not the overtaker.

The argument against this on road safety grounds is without merit. It has been legal in North America (mirror image) for generations without mishap.

HGV Single carriage way speed restriction.

Currently HGV's are required to not exceed 40mph on single carriageway roads, which causes car drivers to attempt overtaking. As this occurs IN BOTH DIRECTIONS at the same time many head-on accidents occur, causing death, injury, and road closures.

If the speed was raised for HGV's and lowered for all other vehicles to 50mph, overtaking would not be necessary, and the overtaking would diminsh, thereby saving lives, and permitting the road to function more safely, with much less cost to the emergency services, and a reduction in road closure.

If this were implemented as a change to the 'National Speed Limit', it would be made at a very minimal cost.

Remove speed-limiters from coaches

I believe that the introduction of fitting speed limiters to coaches was for a trial period. I believe that the trial period is now past and coaches are still having to be fitted with them. Also remove or increase HGV speed limits on motorways.
Allow coaches back into the 3rd lane of motorways as they are often held up by one lorry trying to overtake another. This is what causes tailbacks.
I believe that all new vehicles, cars, vans, coaches etc, with the exception of emergency vehicles, be fitted with speed limiters by the manufacture whilst being built.
If a driver is caught speeding, as part of the punishment, they should be made to have a speed limiter fitted at their own expense and it should be checked during their MOT.

Control Lorry Overtaking on Motorways

A lorry may not overtake another vehicle on the Motorway unless it is travelling at under 55 MPH. An overtaking lorry must fall back if it is unable to sucessfulyy overtake within two minutes.

An alterantive would be ban all Lorry overtaking abouve 50 MPH except in new  "Overtaking Allowed" sections (on hills).

Remove restrictions on ‘undertaking’ on motorways

Allow traffic to overtake on the left on motorways / multi-lane highways, subject to normal overtaking rules about it being safe to do so and not cutting in.
