That people who wish to associate together should not be forbidden to do so.

It is one of our most basic freedoms that we can associate together in any way that we wish. If individuals wish to congregate together to discuss some imposition of the government, they can do so. But the government have made it illegal for people who enjoy tobacco to congregate, unless they comply with the government’s edict not to enjoy tobacco together, unless they are in a place which is not a place available to the general public.

But, it is of the greatest importance for us to understand that the government has NO authority whatsoever to decide in what circumstances citizens can congregate. The right to congregate is sacrosanct.

It follows therefore that the government have no right whatsoever to stop a publican providing facilities for people who enjoy tobacco to meet and talk and enjoy their tobacco. The health of the population as an amorphous mass is irrelevant.

pub smoking

ITs REDICULOUS  TO FORCE CUSTOMERS OUTSIDE JUST BECAUSE THEY SMOKE IN THE EARLY DAYS  PUBS HAD DIFFERENT ROOMS FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE IE BAR / LOUNGE / SNUG / THE SMOKE  etc

SO WHY WONT THE GOVERMENT ALLOW SUCH THINGS NOW A SMOKE ROOM COULD BE SET ASIDE IN MOST PUBS TODAY AT LITTLE COST TO THE PUBS THEY COULD HAVE LARGE INTERNAL GLASS WINDOWS TO MAKE CUSTOMERS PART OF THE PUB WITHOUT IMPOSING THEIR SMOKE ON OTHERS

Reduce restrictions for dog-owners in shops, restaurants and pubs

The presence of dogs in a pub or other food eating area is no more unhygienic than the people that enter, yet dogs are banned willy-nilly from many pubs and eating-places. This reduces usage and therefore undermines the viability of the premises. I have dined in France with the owners' dogs resting their heads on my knee in restaurants, and have suffered no ill-effects. The over-regulation of food and drink premises is a major nonsense, but pales into insignificance as a lunacy when a sports shop claims that dogs are not allowed on grounds of health and safety.

Cut the red tape and make the premises the responsibility of the owner, not a local authority employee.

Smoking in Public Houses

Amend the ban by giving licensees the right to open a 'smoke room' on condition that signage is clearly indicated at entrances so that those of the public who may be offended by the smoke would obviously keep clear. As a retired licenced victualar with more than 25 years in the trade, I come across many of my old customers, many of whom are none smokers, who comment about the loss of atmosphere, especially because so many are in and out for a 'drag'.

Equal Rights For Smokers

To amend the law on smoking in Pubs to allow Equal conditions of comfort and security for both smokers and non smokers. Providing ventilated rooms (not open to the elements) for smokers with the same standard of comfort as non-smokers have.

Repeal the Late Licensing Laws

Repeal the late licensing laws.  Many towns and cities suffer from increased drink fuelled antisocial behaviour now.

Here, York city centre is mayhem on Friday and Saturday nights in particular now.  Come midnight you are stepping over pools of urine and vomit, drunks hurling abuse at passers by, fights in the street and police vans screaming about.  York used to be a pleasant relaxing atmosphere on an evening but now it is horrible.  There are loads of late bars selling cheap alcohol and clubs which open to early hours acting as a hub for rowdy behaviour.

Bring back the Licensing Laws

Allow Public Houses to open and close at proper hours and let them decide if they want to serve food.  Also, Pubs should be allowed to refuse to allow children under 17 years of age to enter. Many of us 'old uns' learned how to take our drink in the Pubs when there were proper opening hours and young children were not allowed in!  There was no awful musac in those days and pubs were a place to meet socially and enjoy a drink with friends. There was very little trouble and practically no drunkeness in most parts of the country and beer was reasonably priced.

Clamp down heavily on the parents of young drinkers who binge drink and make a nuisance of themselves and control the Supermarkets on what they sell. The Drinks Industry has been targetting kids and children for years and they must be stopped.

LIFT SMOKING BAN IN PUBS & CLUBS at management’s discretion
