remove the opening restictions on Sunday in England and Wales

why are stores only allowed to open for 6 hours on a Sunday?  What kind of half way house is that.  I used to live in Scotalnd where this rule doesn't apply and it's great to ahve the freedom to shop whenever you get the chance.

Eliminate limits on Sunday trading hours

As a capitalist country there should not be limits on retail trading hours, trading hours should be governed by demand not government!  Restricting retail hours on Sundays is against capitalism.  As Christians we complain how other governments have laws based on their religious beliefs when it comes to business yet we do the same.

Repeal ALL Sunday Trading/Behaviour Laws

Be it only being allowed to open a shop exceeding x square feet for six hours, or limitations on hunting rights. The 'Keep Sunday Special' laws have no place in this society.

Remove the Sunday trading act 1994

I feel that the Sunday Trading Act 1994 should be removed. Majopr retailers should not be allowed to trade at all on a Sunday. This will help re-install family values, it will encouarge people to spend time toghther as families. By all shops being restricted to this law it would ensre fairness. Small business would still be able to suceed in the marktet place, and big business can reduce some costs. The good that this would do our country is almost impossible to measure.

Repeal the Sunday Trading laws

As a regular chuch goer I see no reason at all not to let shops open on a Sunday. We now live in a 24/7 world where we expect all services and facilities to be available at all times. Alow shops to open on a Sunday if they wish – it would not be compulsory. Why can't I pop to my local supermarket before the early service on Sunday or even on my way home from the evening service?

Remove limits on sunday shop opening times

Why do we have limits on what time shops can open, particularly on a sunday?  Some people argue it is to 'protect' workers from having to work the weekends and evenings, or maybe it is linked to old religious traditions?  Either way, in a modern multi-culteral, multi-religous and 24 hr society, why can't businesses open and operate however they wish to.  And indeed, why can't I go and access the shops whenever I want to.

I'm not a dead keen shopper, but I would like to be able to pick stuff up from the shops on a sunday afternoon. And who hasn't been caught out when returning home on a late sunday afternoon to find nothing in the fridge and the local shops and supermarket closed?  As a previous employee of Safeway supermarket, I know that there are plenty of people who are happy to work any day.

So lets think about further repealing the laws which prevent shops opening when they want, particularly on a sunday.

Scrap the Sunday Trading regulations

In today's global society every day is important for trade, and the current Sunday trading regulations seem to be stifling for businesses and economic growth.

I believe that if the Sunday trading regulations were scrapped, and Sunday treat as a normal trading day, that this could help the economy and create more jobs.

One disadvantage of this would be that currently workers can refuse to work on Sundays – however, I see no reason why, if the Sunday trading regulations were scrapped, an amendment could be made to the working time directive to state that workers are allowed to stipulate one day a week that they refuse to work. This could safeguard vital time together for families, and also be beneficial to many religious groups. Currently it is only Sundays which people can opt out of, which is beneficial to many Christians – but if people could choose their own opt out day then Christians would still be able to opt out of Sundays, Jews may wish to opt out of Saturdays, Muslims may wish to opt out of Fridays – the freedom would be there to choose whichever day is important to you.
