Nationalised childcare to get more people working/decrease gender pay gap

Nationalise childcare so that single parents can get off Income Support/JSA and into work. In 2004 the UK came 20th in nationalised childcare out of 23 European countries studied, trailing Turkey and Greece. Right now we have a lot LESS nationalised/subsidised childcare places than we did in WW2!

Why is this idea important?

That unemployed people should be allowed to hunt rabbits and such.

Unemployed people are stuck. Their only income is that provided by the state, which is minuscule. Why should they not be able to hunt and fish?

UNEMPLOYMENT LIFELINE

My idea is one way of resolving unemployement. During the 21st century there have been a number of natural disasters around the globe that have caused havoc and devastation for the countrys/areas affected.

Recently these past few years up to now umemployment has rocketed unnaturally. Millions have been made unjustly redundant due the cuts etc. I believe that the goverment should set up agencies around the country aimed at umemployed men and women from around 18-50years of age. The agencies are aimed at aiding countrys/ares that have been hit by natural disastors such as the most recent flooding in pakistan. The agency will provide travel cost to the country/area affected and basic accomadation and supplies for up to 2 weeks per person. The problem at the moment is that our country has hundreds of thousands of umemployed men/women, the plan is to use all that manpower for the good of the world and the general satisfaction for the umemployed person. They are sent over to places such as pakistan to help with the rebuilding of houses and rebuild the country. This will not only provide the umemployed worker a feeling of satisfaction but help them to be grateful for the lifestyle that they are currently in, perhaps providing he/she with inspiration to do more with there life for the good of others as oppsed to staying at home on the sofa watching t.v from dawn till dusk entering a downward spiral of worthlessness and depression. It can also be put onto the umemployed persons c.v upon there return as to help them in accumulating a job.

I feel that this transaction should be put into place immediately by the goverment as this will prove to be a far more affective way of not only dealing with the unemployment problem but aiding other countrys with action. As opposed to the current situation which is the goverment throwing money at it and hoping for it to be put to good use and resolve the situation and that has never worked.

Also this plan is not only simply short term as natuaral disastors have a long term affect and frequently occur. That is my idea please take it into consideration, thankyou for reading this.

Employment and Privacy on Convictions

Respect the privacy of citizens formerly convicted of an offence.

Most criminals are unemployed. And people in work seldom commit an offence. Indeed, there is nothing worse for reforming an offfender than them not being able to find work after their offence.

The EU recognises this and has put into place laws preventing employers discriminating against people convicted of something.

This is to help reform them. It is illegal for an employer, for example, to inquire in a job interview about convictions. It is illegal to request that information on applications.

And it works. Reoffence is scarce after steady employment is found.

But there's one crazy little country "opting out" of this ruling by forcing people to mention convictions on job applications.

In the UK, a former offender remains under State obligation to declare convictions on job applications (except in some cases).

Here's a Eures search on the word "conviction". Only the UK imposes self-destruction on its citizens by forcing many of those convicted of something to remain in unemployment.

Abolish The Jobseekers’ Act 1995

This is a very nasty, vindictive, scapegoating law, copying previous ideas that didn't work and it's based on a lie. That lie is – workers decide whether or not to work. The truth of the matter is that employers, not workers, decide whether workers can work or not. It's based on The Poor Law 1834 (which brought in the Workhouse), as well as on a 1930's scheme where the Conservatives thought that the unemployed had "gone soft" and needed to be "toughened up for work". During both these periods there were very few or no jobs available. It should be top priority to abolish the Jobseekers' Act 1995, because it means that millions of people have now got a death sentence hanging over them. I wonder how many people died of JSA under the new Labour Govt? I think we should be told. As a long standing Lib Dem voter, I feel betrayed by their failure to impose Proportional Representation immediately or abolish JSA immediately. Reinstate the Social Security Act 1976, bringing back Unemployment Benefit, and Supplementary Benefit. I also think benefit rates should be doubled. I'm on Income Support, so according to the unchecked Conservative "Welfare Reform" plans, I haven't got long left to live.

Job Seekers Allowance – New Rules

Any persons receiving job seekers allowance for 6 months or longer should also have to donate a set amount of time per week to work voluntary for their local council or have their payments stopped.

JSA Volunteers could help keep our streets clean,  repair roads,  look after public parks.

Not only would this idea allow the tax payers to see some kind of return on their money but it would also be a great way of getting people used to the idea of working.

Welfare Reform. Encourage people off benefits

To help encourage people back ito work, or into work for the first time give them the following financial incentives:

  • 1st Month back at work 100% of their benefits
  • 2-3 Months back at work 50% of their benefits
  • 4-6 months back at work 25% of their benefits
  • 7-12 months back at work 10% of their benefits

Going back to work can be difficult with childcare, travel, etc…This would support and encourage people. If you slowly remove their dependancy on benefits it should be less likely they will return to the support of the welfare state.

Equal access to high quality education

There is nothing which infringes our liberty more than disadvantaged status.  Poverty, unemployment and poor quality education are difficult to separate out.  Until we ensure that all our children have equal access to the same quality of education – and to the same level, should they wish, without taking on a lifetime of debt – large tranches of our society will never have the liberty to lead fulfilling lives.  This is not a magic bullet, of course:  but it would remove an early hurdle for millions.

UK citizens’ right to find a job: punishments for dodgy Agencies who recruit abroad first

Introduce a policing aspect (of advertising and interviewing etc) to Job Centre functions.  Protect the Human Rights of our own Nationals to find a job.  Send investigators abroad to find out who is luring people to come – for a fee – to UK .

Investigate and punish organisations, such as "employment agencies"  and gangmasters which are wielding unfair hold over the job market.  Fines imposed if correct advertising within the locality of the job in the UK and also nationally are not followed.

Agencies are allied to criminal gangmasters and pimps.  They have caused many illegal immigrants to enter the UK as cheap labour, which is against our traditional rules of "queueing" and fairness. Bring back moral principles and remove any rewards for cheating to the detriment of others.

It is lies that farmers cannot find local youths, housewives, pensioners and others to pick fruit and crops locally.  Farmers and food factories just don't bother  to advertise near themselves at all.  They go overseas to recruit immediately, bypassing this country always, because it is cheaper for them to do this and to exploit foreigners.  One rarely sees any jobs advertised in rural towns or their local papers – because such employers are too stingey even to bother to place ads.

Agencies have a stranglehold over all IT workers in London.  IT professionals are only able to find short term contracts. Few of these workers can find their own career or work directly for a company for longer periods of time, because the Agencies impose penalties upon companies who do not do what they require.  Thus the agencies are getting huge wads of cash from all that brain work of hundreds of graduates within our capital. If any of the IT workers are reasonably paid now, just think how much money Agencies are creaming off from the banks and other organisations their contracts are with.

The top owners and executives of such parasitical Agencies are the Big Business once worshipped by the Tony Blair Labour government.

It must be "down" to Agencies that Chief executives (eg of local Councils) are receiving such massively high salaries.  Have you read the smarmy adverts for such "top" posts?

"Employment" agencies use devious methods and are responsible for the fact that the youth of Britain, including most of its graduates, are left on the scapheap.

Many of the methods which agencies use are unfair, ageist, and prejudiced (interviewing and decision making methods).  Why are Agencies permitted to insert/intrude themselves between people,  and to make such life-important decisions about peoples' lives; rather than permitting the actual companies to talk and negotiate directly with candidates?

Workers on short-term Agency contracts do not belong to Trade Unions.

Agency methods may have permitted some of the best jobs to go to liars and criminals.  How else would somebody like Fred the Shred have got away with all that he did ..

Eliminate limits on Sunday trading hours

As a capitalist country there should not be limits on retail trading hours, trading hours should be governed by demand not government!  Restricting retail hours on Sundays is against capitalism.  As Christians we complain how other governments have laws based on their religious beliefs when it comes to business yet we do the same.

Repeal all Social Welfare Benefits and pay a subsistence wage.

Instead of benefits, government pensions, tax credits etc make a subsistence payment to everyone from cradle to grave. We could work as much (or as little) as we needed for anything else. A fund would need to be set up for the few with many extra needs.

Murder

As recent events in Northumbria have shown, the law against murder is extremely costly to implement. It can also make criminals of ordinary people, including the police on occasion. There is also little evidence that a ban on murder makes any difference to the overall rate, and can actually drive murderers underground, literally speaking in the case of Raoul Moat!

I therefore suggest scrapping the ban on murder. All existing prisoners serving sentences for this crime could be released, and given alternative employment in A4E and other "welfare-to-work" organisations, as well as the government's putative boot camps for the unemployed.

What could possibly go wrong?

Remove a significant barrier for the long term unemployed

Quite often people caught in a benefits trap are qualified, capable and willing to work. The longer a person is out of work, the more unlikely an employer is to hire him or her. Qualifications and skills become irrelevant when there is a large employment gap on a CV. Please remove this barrier!

My idea is this: many front line services are being scaled down. Allow those unemployed people who are suitable to support local services and work without pay. However let them do a respected job, not simply making the tea. Give the individual a chance to prove that they are not lazy or incapable.

Help for 16 – 21 year old’s seeking work

Allow youngsters on the dole to be able to accept short time work for say 6 weeks, to be able to get back on the dole when that work dries up, without having to wait the customry 26 weeks or whatever the period is now.    It may mean that they are given a job at the end of the 6 weeks ( or whatever time), but because they are penalised for taking short time work they are scared to go off the dole for short periods.

Require Unemployment benifit claimants to Clock On and Off

Those claiming unemployment benifit should be required to Clock On and Off ant the start and finish of every working day ie 9 to 5. This would be at benifit centres or other agreed centres. The claimants could use the time to apply for jobs, attend approved interviews, or retrain at approved centres/facilities.

Stop abuse of student visa

A large number of international students come to UK each year. However, many of them never show up for classes. They do petty jobs and often never complete their studies. As a result UK looses in 2 ways:

1. The Universities do not get full fees they are expecting.

2. The unemployment problem is deterioating.

A possible solution is to keep close watch on incoming students. UK needs a system similar to SEVIS in the US.  To discourage students from dropping out, there should be a minimum attendance and grade requirements. Any students falling short on these requirements should be deported.

Allow unemployed to do agricultural work and keep benefits

Fruit growers have to import workers for harvesting, increasing immigration and pressure on the NHS etc. UK workers can't do this work as it is too low paid to decently live on, is not regular enough (seasonal only), and if people come off benefits to do the work they face a 6 week paperwork trail before they get back on. Allow the unemployed to do this work, keep their housing and council tax benefits but reduce the unemployment benefit portion so that the worker would be no better off than someone on tax credits doing the same job. It would give unemployed youth good experience and offer unemployed fathers the chance to get out and work without jeopardising their families financial well being.

Require businesses to create entry-level jobs

Businesses should be required to have at least 5% of positions in their companies set aside for people without experience in the sector. This can be 5% rounded down, so companies with under 20 workers would not be affected, companies with 20 – 39 employees would need to have one position etc.

Seriously Curb The Current Right That Potential Employers Have To Request CRB, Security & Credit Checks

I have been unemployed for over two years and because of this I now have a poor credit rating. I have been posted as a defaulter on a register compiled and maintained by Experian and others like them.  And even though I am in a debt management  programme I have been told that this posting will stay on my file for six years after the money has been paid back and the debt/s cleared?

As I work in the field of Information Technology the Credit Checks that the last Government entitled potential employers to request has kept, and is continuing to keep me from earning a living. This law which is an infringement into my private affairs is keeping me out of work.

Because now not only are all the Banks requesting and being allowed to obtain this information on UK citizens, but also any company that does any kind of work for them are being told by the Banks they must make these checks on any of their potential employees before offering them work.

The same applies to CRB checks. A person could have committed a minor infringement of the law decades ago yet  this millstone around their necks will hamper their achievements for the rest of their lives.

After 13 years of thoughtless and draconian laws being passed by some who’s own behaviour and moral compass is very dubious has reached ridiculous and epic proportions

I am 58 years of age and of mixed race and I do not need any more barriers than already exist to me getting back in work and off benefits. I am sure the above must apply  to millions of other people in Britain today who are currently out of work and being forced to claim state subsistence.

Unemployment can be very depressing especially when there is a large decline in job vacancies. It must be time that unemployment benefit should only be given to those who work for their communites otherwise you don't receive anything.
