Council Tax reform

Like many, i have done the right thing and bought my own home so i'm not reliant on social housing, which is fortunate as i don't think i'd be eligable being the most discriminated against sector of society…. single white male without children.

having bought a house in need of investment, (the onle one i could afford), at great financial discomfort, i am now forced to pay council tax on this whilst i renovate it. This prevents me from investing in the house so i can live in it, at which time i will be eligable for a 25% discount.

I am investing in the local housing stock, but there is no incentive to do so. The council tax exemptions should be updated to ensure people who do the right thing are not penalised by local authorities.

Why is this idea important?

Combine National Insurance and Income Tax

Currently we have these two systems of tax which are similar in many ways. As no tax is hypothecated, the argument that NI is for certain uses is bogus. Clearly, if we just had income tax on all types of income in would be more efficient to collect for both the government and business. Although this would be a radical step, people aren’t stupid and they would clearly see that the overall tax take was the same.

scrap the current tax system

I am fed up with having to pay different taxes and contributions that just amount to money being taken out.

Why not just have one bill (taken from wages/earnings) to cover for different services that we will use (or could use) over our life time.

Obvious things could include: NHS, care service, roads, environment, transport, welfare, public cleanliness, police, education. pensions

others could include: waste management, fire services etc

Abolish Council Tax Capping

Repeal central government's power arbitrarily to limit the power of local councils to raise money to fund the local services people want.

It would need to be done in the context of a thorough look at the operation of the present Council Tax arrangements, which are opaque to the ordinary citizen, unfair in many respects, and increasingly out of kilter with the economics of a rational tax base.  This tax base could, with advantage, be broadened.

Difficult stuff, but a re-casting of the system could improve the standard of locally-provided services and re-invigorate our democracy at both local and national levels.

Keep taxation simple

In this country we have created an industry out of taxing people.

We need to scrap all current taxation systems and their taxes (vat, income tax, tv licence, road tax, import duties, capital gains etc etc) and replace them with a single tax, on some sliding scale, per capita, per annum. After you have paid that your money is your own.

We are wasting billions collecting taxes by the current system.

A simple tax would be an incentive for people to get out and earn.

A total rethink of HMRC

The whole of HMRC and the tax collection system needs a complete re-write.

The institution is a complete dinosaur with processes that are pointless, repetitive, staff that don't know the tax laws, are unmotivated and stuck in a world where the real world of business problems and drivers have no meaning fro them at all.

Consolidate the IT systems, get rid of the systems suppliers that cost the country such huge amounts of money just to shuffl bits of paper about.

Steamline the tax system itself, aim for flat rates, get rid of the pointless beurocracy and hugley frustrating and unbending rules and regulations.

It will mean lots of brave decisions and a lot of pain but even the medium term results will be utterly worth it.

Please.

Flat tax

Throw away the tax books and introduce flat tax. [Ideally of course there should just be a consumption tax so that savers are rewarded and spenders are taxed.]

Abolish Income Tax ans similar, put it all on spending

Income Tax was only brought in temporarily  (to fund a war?)!! , scrap it and similar taxation. Put the burden on spending, with safeguards for those who are in need. Let someone earn as much as they want, if they save it all – great for the banks and country cash in bank health, if they spend it, great, more they spend, more they pay!

Sack all the Inland Revenue and similar bureaurcrats with the huge costs of administration etc, with tax on spending no one can avoid!

Simplify the Tax system

Scrap all current taxes.

Introduce a tiered system of tax.

Tier1. Personal income. All personal income, from the first pound to be taxed on a graduating scale. No deductions. Investment income and such to be classed as personal.

Tier2. Business income. All business income to be taxed at a fixed amount. No deductions.

Tier3. VAT

Tier4. Additional duty, petrol, alcohol and such.
